Getting the cylinder head off

Post by gwion »

Hi there, I'm new to the forum and have just bought a FZR 600 3HE 1993. Unfortunately, one of the spark plugs has worn the thread in the cylinder head and I can't get it in. There's a garage that's offered to helicoil it for £12 but I have to take the cylinder head to them. I'm a bit of a noob with engines but am keen to learn to do stuff myself. My question is how do I get the head off? I've taken the airbox, carbs and the top cover off the cylinder but am lost on how to take it off? I can't see any screws or anything that would split it so I can take it off. Any help would be much appreciated, I've been trying to do this all day and am not getting anywhere!

Ohh, The head bolts are between the spark plugs and dead center in the cam bearings.

You need to take the cam cover off first.,
