I've got bar end mirrors on my 94 and I was just thinking about cutting down the mirror stay so it doesn't attach to the front fairing anymore, but still leaving the tank cover mount. Mine is kind of bent and looks like crap anyway so I think it would really clean up the look of the bike. Has anyone does this? Does the front fairing get too wobbly in the wind?

I seem to remember that working OK without the weight of the mirrors on there, but it's been a long time since I had a stock stay so I could be mistaken.

Cannot say for the FZR but on the FZ no stay will get your throat cut by a shattering screen at in his case 100Mph.
Might have been freak but do YOU wanna take the chance ?

That's exactly the kind of experience I was looking for. Unless someone else can say definitively that it's fine, the mirror stay isn't coming off. At least not for now.

Good point Geo, that's raised my concerns.

When a YZF600 tank is fitted the front mirror stay has to be removed, or the tank won't fit, I thought the mirrors, and the top/nose fairing/screen would possibly vibrate, my YZF tank is fitted just need to finish off the pillion seat brackets, and fab an untertray for the R6 tail, so haven't rode it yet. I'm thinking now, cut the stay down flip it left to right so the cut is facing forwards, and use it as a brace between both mirrors. Duno how that would look, or even be of any use, i can't find the damn thing to check.

Could someone who has the YZF tank, whatever tail, and top/nose fairing/mirrors fitted, shed light on any issues arising with the front stay removed, and or a suitable remedy?

Well i found the mirror stay, it wont work as i thought. The best solution i can come up with, is to adapt the mirror stay to fit on haro504's YZF tank mount. viewtopic.php?f=18&t=6301&p=62415#p62415

I've removed my mirror stay and rode it at 220 km/h. Nothing came off, but the mirrors vibrate. It's pretty annoying at first, but i got used to it after a while.

why not just fab a straight bar?

unless that bar is anchored to the frame the mirrors vibrate so much as to be almost useless (having ridden a bike with a busted stay after someone else crashed it.)
