Centerline of rear rim / swing arm.

I don't know exactly how to word this, but does anybody know if the rear rim is centered in the swing arm?

This is what I have found:

1) with the swing arm removed, mark the center point of the swing arm pivot.

2) mark the center line of the "tube" on the swing arm where the dog bones mount up.

3) mount up the rear rim with all spacers etc.

4) draw a straight line between 1) and 2) and extend to rim.

The line should intersect the valve stem core which is the center point of the rim. It misses by about 3.7 mm, at least by my calculations.

I guess I just want to know if anybody else can confirm this. No big deal, but it would explain why my measurements to install a 17 x 4.5 rim resulted in the rear rim being about 4mm off the center line of the front rim.

theoretically the wheel centers should line up BUT over the years it has been my experience they rarely do at least on older used machines.
Unfortunately when I was building for yamaha out of their crates we worked from assembly drawings and wheel alignment was making sure each wheel was along the bikes axis straight rather than wheel to wheel alignment.
