i jumped the wire from the battery right to the headlight and the speedometer lit up, as well as the bulb.. could the problem be anywhere or should it be in my starter switch?

Might want to check the headlight switch. The blue wire in there is known for coming off.

as in the high/lowbeam switch? there is a series of wires running from the headlight that have a blue connector piece... i took that apart and cleaned the little bit of corrosion that was on there but nothing came of it

the little switch that turns low to high beam. Water got in mine and when I turned on my bike it just fried and melted the little button switch thing so I had to replace it....also, make sure you checked ALL the fuses.

for me I had to take apart the right controls (with the start button) and there was a wire in there that was loose that needed to be resoldered. I'd check in there too. Should be a blue wire.

Yup I had the EXACT same issue. it was the starting switch, it was bad. I noticed that sometimes the starter stayed stuck
but yeah the blue wire, if its disconnected or faulty switch it will not make contact and no headlight.
