Float Heights How To

Float Heights

I finnaly got how to properly measure float heights. This can be pretty confusing and frustrating for carb retards like me who are visual learners :duh: Factory setting should be 22mm and it looks like people go with 24mm if a Jet Kit is installed.

Also remember. While pressing down on the "tang" the float height will increase ,pushes the fuel inlet valve down (creates a leaner condition) . While pulling up on the "tang" the float height will decrease ,brings the fuel inlet valve up(creates a richer condition)

You measure from the gasket surface of the carbs to the top of the float or between the flower and the "C" on ragedigital's card measurment picture..over here viewtopic.php?f=8&t=891&hilit=adjusting+floats&start=15

Next hold the carb at a 45 deg. angle as shown in the 4th picture over here http://www.factorypro.com/tech_tuning_p ... edure.html

Make sure the "tang" does not compress the needle valve(fuel inlet valve) "bumper" . While tilting the floats until the tang barely touches the fuel inlet valve bumper , take measurments. I think that the FZR fuel inlet valve bumper is pretty stiff and it will not compress when the tang touches because of the float's weight.

This does an awesome job at explaining and identifying various terms such as : float assembly , float assembly tang, fuel inlet needle valve, fuel inlet valve seat ,and fuel inlet valve bumper(one you should not compress)

I'm glad I can help . You guys have definitely helped me a bunch. I do not know Faded(black sheep logo) but I have created an account there and asked him via a private message if I can use his info on another forum. I'll let you know as soon as I get his response.

I'm still trying to figure out what all the jets actually do or how they affect the carbs, their settings ,turns... So when I find out after researching a bunch of places, I'll do a how to with pics from my carbs. I have them apart so It is a good idea to do it. Main jet , Pilot Air Jet ,Pilot Jet,Starter Jet,Needle Jet... :yikes:

YB,
go to the SUDCO mikuni site they have all you will ever need on what jet does what and where in the rev range.
I bought their mini book as refference about 30 years or so ago and ten years ago bought another copy as the first is just a tad dog-eared. worth every cent of its price.

On a personal note it is the every day guys like you who bring the knowledge they find to the site that make this site a pleasure to work with & for ClapHands
THANK YOU
