Converting back to cable clutch

Post by Freestyle72 »

Hey I have Modking's hydraulic clutch conversion on my FZR4/683 and was wondering what is involved with converting the bike back to clutch cables? My main issue that the hydraulic mechanism get's in the way of my chain since I switched to the zx6 sprocket to get the offset I need. Now I am thinking I may cut the thing up to let the chain get by but I rather not effect the integrity of it. However since my GSXR front end that is going on shortly has cable clutch controls I figure I might as well swap back to cable clutch as I enjoy the feel better anyway.

Any advice is highly appreciated.

you just need the sprocket cover the cable and a lever for the cable might need to adjust it at the cover might not but theres not much to it. mod king i think can make you new rod and then just space the plate off alittle i think mrfreeze hade the same problem and made it work
ones life is the way it is only because you allow it make it happen.

What size chain are you using? 428? 520? 530? That does make a difference.

520... and upon further investigstion I won't be able to hack it up so I would probably have to space it out. Does anyone have a cable clutch system for sale? I need to rectify this soon. It kills me everyday I see my bike in the garage and the weather is so warm and delicious out.

eBay usually has more than enough of them to choose from...

You should be able to retain the hydro stuff, but you need to space the slave mount out +8mm or so. I just made longer spacers and got longer bolts. Here is a pic of mine with the plate unmodified.

There's not a lot of room in there, but it clears ok. I have since shaved it slightly with the grinder, just to give it a little more room at the chain. Its also a good idea to shave it a little at the front where it is near the water pump. Spacing it out caused mine to hit the pump and made it difficult to get on and off, but a quick whack with a flap wheel did the trick. With my setup, I am currently using a ball bearing in the slave cylinder, and a ball bearing in the engine. I had to play with the spacing to make sure the lever throw was right, but it didnt take long.
