FZR 600 Won't Start and Headlights Off

Hi All,

I have a problem with my bike that is driving me crazy. I was riding the other day and went to get gas stopped the bike and went to start it again and it would not start. No Head lights but is had all other electrical. I followed the post and attempted to clean out the Start switch, which was sticking but I had not issue with up until then, and still nothing. When I turn the ignition switch on again all lights come on neutral switch light, turn signals....still no head lights. I turn the Run switch on and I can hear a click in the REGULATOR RECTIFIER (which I though about replacing) and see a slight up tick on the Tachometer but nothing else....so you know I have replaced the battery with a new one which I have on a trickle charger and even tested the old battery and that should 12.8v, so I figured that is not the issue.

Please help I am not that knowledgeable when it comes to bikes!

It's probably the switch. Try wiggling it and see if you can get the lights to come on.

Which switch? I have the starter switch off it that did not seem to do a thing.......

The starter switch. I had to put a rubber band around mine and put some upwards pressure on it to keep the headlights on. I just changed the RH controls.

If the switch is completely off the bike I don't believe the head lights will work at all, I could be wrong though. The HL ground runs through the switch, when you start the bike it breaks the ground. Normally, your HL would shut off when starting, just like a car(most late model)

Have you checked the lights fuse , that the bulbs are blown. Hot filaments do a stop bump the bike & off they go. been known to happen.

I turn the Run switch on and I can hear a click in the REGULATOR RECTIFIER (which I though about replacing)

The click you heard would have been the fuel pump, then it would auto shut off (carbs full of gas) the "REGULATOR RECTIFIER" is solid state no moving parts.

Thanks all for all of the great advice, I pulled the starter switch off, cleaned it up and made sure the connection plate was free to move via a pressure spring, put it all back together and the lights came on and the bike is now up and running again....man I am so stoked!!! The starter still sticks a bit but I am watching it. Anyway, suppose to be in the 90 here in VA so I will go for a nice spin thanks again to all and see you on the roads!

The starter sticking and the HL issues are related, replace the RH controls and you'll be good to go. I had the exact same problem.
