valve cover gasket blowing out the sides

First off Id like to offically say hello to all you fellow fzr riders. I came across this site when I bought my bike a little over a year ago when the previous owner told me about this place when I picked up my 91 600. I've cruised around here since then and have learned a lot but just never posted. Ill be sure to say my hellos in the new member section.

As I said I have a 91 600 and she's ran great untill recently when I decided to ceramic coat the headers. When curing them on the bike by letting it idle the bike over heated and started leaking oil out of the front of the valve cover. I assumed I blew the gasket so I replaced it. Ever since the when i ran the bike after a fairly short period of time the thicker rubber pieces on the side of the cover gasket blow out on the right side and oil just spits out. Since then I've replaced all new bolts and even a new valve cover thinking that got warped... I'm stumped banghead

Hi, firstly was the replacement gasket of good quality? not a cheap after market one.

How long did the engine overheat? (did you leave it run unattended) if damage to the pistons/cylinders occurred, then you'd get excessive back pressure (a build up of pressure in the crank case) possibly blowing the rubber pieces out.

Check your crank case breather/vent tube for any blockage, clear as necessary, disconnect it from the airbox if it's puffing blue/grey smoke that's a sign of engine damage.

I hope it's a simple fix and not the latter.

Ok so It was the breather tube. It got kinked up at the crankcase. I pulled that off and rode for 3-4 miles and no blow out. I knew the gasket was good because that and the new bolts were straight yamaha oem parts. Horray for cheap fixes. Thanks a billion man. You all never cease to amaze me. :udaman .

Glad it was a easy/inexpensive fix. Keep a close eye on the oil level, could have also blown an oil seal.

I Definitely will keep an eye on everything that's for sure. Thanks again.
