No spacer? Deathtrap.
I bought a 95 fzr6 from a seemingly respected member on this forum last April. I went to replace the rear tire today only to find out I've been riding an apparent deathtrap. Not only was there a pile of hidden safety concerns. I found out today There was no spacer put on the rear wheel right side and the rotor bolts have eaten away at the bracket. It has the r6 swingarm conversion.
Basically I need to move forward and fix the problem. Any advice as to locatin replacement parts would be appreciated. I'll post pics when I can get to my computer.

I would look at a microfiche like BikeBandit.com or RonAyers.com for the necessary parts.
Anytime a bike has custom work done to it, you have to be real careful and inspect everything. I hope it works out for you.

Most of it was minor. The wheel issue, however, is not. I knew there would be issues on an older bike, most were relatively minor, but I don't really know how this went unnoticed by all the people that have checked the bike out.

I think I would have noticed some scraping going on back there.Jrdn223 wrote:but I don't really know how this went unnoticed by all the people that have checked the bike out.

Re: No spacer? Deathtrap.
Didn't notice a thing. Yes, this is my first bike, but i'm not completely incompetent. I probably rushed into the purchase, but I would have noticed any obvious abnormalities, such as the sound during riding, which i did not. Regardless of that, the problem has ocurred. I'm just looking for a solution, not sarcasm.
If someone would be kind enough to take a look at the write-up on the 99-02 r6 swingarm conversion, that is the bike I bought. I've loaded the picture of interest into my album. The bracket holding the rear brake caliper has had nearly a half inch groove etched out of it by the rotor bolts. I'm looking for what spacer is necessary to fix the problem. The more specific, the better. I would ask him directly but I place no value in his word at this point.

Re: No spacer? Deathtrap.
I'm also having trouble locating the exact part in the bikebandit schematics. I found what is called the caliper bracket but the picture looks nothing like the actual piece. Again, any help appreciated.

Definitely NOT aiming that at you, but rather the person who built it. Surely they would have rotated the tire off the ground and noticed something.Jrdn223 wrote:Regardless of that, the problem has ocurred. I'm just looking for a solution, not sarcasm.
Are you able to take photos of the rear set-up? They may have a mixture of parts from various years.

I apologize for my sarcasm in return. I've spent the last few hrs trying to figure a solution of at least safely storing the bik. the bikes sitting at a relatively small shop, with little excess space, 30mins away from me and i'm having trouble getting ahold of a pickup or trailer. The writeup in the the wiki has a bunch of pictures of the EXACT bike i bought.

Well, it's hard to tell from the images, but it looks to me that he used the entire rear assembly. Could it be that a rotor bolt came loose?
Here are the FICHE pictures. You may just have to tear it down to see what is missing.

Re: No spacer? Deathtrap.
i think theres only 2 spacers one of them being the caliper bracket and then one on the otherside. myself id ride the bike home and just go slow

Re: No spacer? Deathtrap.
the caliper bracket is the spacer on that side so im thinking after rereading this that a rotor bolt must have backed out and chewed threw the caliper bracket. are any of the bolts missing or worn on the heads and if the tire doesent move side to side on the axel then the spacers are there and being that the caliper bracket is the spacer it wouldent let the wheel move over enough the chew a half in out of the bracket as well as the caliper holding the wheel in place by the rotor. judging by the pics in the build topic its all stock stuff so im thinking you need to check over your bike alittle more often and take this up with who you bought it from and not try to slam 95fzr600 if its his bike you bought

I'll post pictures of the actual bracket. Ragedigital, thank you for the Fiche schematics.. I could not find the picture of that part on any other site. Check my album for pictures of what exactlys going on.
Re: No spacer? Deathtrap.
Yamaha Dealership is telling me I have to buy the entire rear caliper in order to put the new bracket on. Any truth in this?

Re: No spacer? Deathtrap.
Doesn't look like they sell the bracket separately. See in the FICHE above how the bracket doesn't have its own number? I would look at eBay for someone parting one out.Jrdn223 wrote:Yamaha Dealership is telling me I have to buy the entire rear caliper in order to put the new bracket on. Any truth in this?
