Well kind of a long story but here it goes.....
In March I decided to buy a Sport Bike for a change from my Harley. A bud who bought my Shadow off of me liked the idea and wanted 1 to since he just got an insurance settlement. I was eyeing up this FZR but he kinda fell for it so I let him grab it & I grabbed a Ninja ZX6e from the same guy. They arrived and another bud begged me to sell him my Ninja since it arrived. So I sold it to him & I found a nicer ZX-6R from a bud who got it in trade in at his car lot for a deal.

So finally we get riding weather and all 3 of us started riding the rockets and my bud who bought this FZR decided to sell is Shadow & he felt a little cramped (6'5") on the FZR and fell in love with my ZX-6R and offered me $2K plus the FZR for the Ninja. All cool with me since this was the bike I was looking at in the 1st place & that was his only bike.
The Ninja ZX-6R seems to be a tighter, faster bike, torque & top end but I have to adjust the cables. My bud was playing with the adjustments thinking something was wrong with it because it felt different than his shadow and has the adjustment whacked but the bike is in excellent condition with 8,000 miles on it. Looks like it sat in a garage for it's life and runs like new

A lot of play in the throttle and the clutch is wound tight :ermm: Adjusted the throttle and it's better but needs adjust at the carbs from what I read in the manual & the clutch needs the lower part adjusted or the cable has been stretched to tight.
I was reading some of the 520 chain swap & Wiki stuff, probably going to do the 520 chain & sprocket swap and 150 tire swap, any other quick performance things that can be done? Runs great & has a Jardine pipe. Not looking to sink a ton of money into it,just giver a little more at the bottom end like the Ninja.

The best mods you can do is to the front suspension by adding emulators and at the rear end a new shock ReelRazor on this list does an nice rear end kit. whilst not adding to the engines performance replacing the aging (and in the case of the front end crap suspension ) you will be able to ride faster with more confidence. I take it the bike has s/steel brake lines ? if not replace them as they are only trusted by yamaha for 7 years if memory serves.

Also, rr did a sweet write up about ignition advance that I swear by. And Thatkid sells an r6 exhaust upgrade that frees up some ponies. Welcome to the site. Also changing out the mirrors adds at least 13 hp. Just kidding but I laugh at stock ones. Funny that I keep mine in a room as mirrors to check the hair before I leave.

Chris.

Rob,

First off - WELCOME to the community!

Your bike is in excellent condition. One of the few color schemes that is modern.

There is a "Fox" sticker on your FZR, but I don't see a Fox shock, unless it's hidden well. That is a wonderful upgrade to the stock shock if it has one.

A 520 conversion with a 14/49 or 14/47 sprocket combination will give the bike some better acceleration off the line. This also gets you to the higher RPMs quicker where the FZR can rock if tuned properly.

Welcome aboard. That's my favorite color scheme of the FZR600. There's a good amount if performance mod you can do ranging jet kits to sprocket configurations, Do a few searches and check out the wiki and you'll see.

Nice bike. I just saw the exact same color scheme in the same condition for $2500 on Chicago craigslist.

Thanks fella's

A little help if you plz...does this look like what I need for a 520 swap and sprockets? The ratio is 3.29,1 step down from the 14/47 set up,it's 14/46 since I didn't see the 47T offered there. If this is it I'll probably order tomarrow :headbang:

Front sprocket: (jt front sprocket - 14t) http://www.cheapcycleparts.com/products ... rocket-14t

Rear sprocket : (jt rear sprocket - steel/46t) http://www.cheapcycleparts.com/products ... -steel-46t

Chain: (d.i.d 520 standard chain - 112) http://www.cheapcycleparts.com/products ... -chain-112
*connector: http://www.cheapcycleparts.com/products ... chain-clip
just under $100....

I would suggest going with the 15/50 setup. It's basically identical to the 14/47 but the bends are less on the chain so it will last longer.

You can go to a 520 if ya want. And yeah there's so much confusion as to the name (yamaha is at fault for that). Either way good choice.

So it's really who knows which model? Is there any real difference between the 2? I thought I saw the "R" have a different paint on the back or lack there of of the number area? I think it had an "R" there? Other than that is there a diff.?

So I can stay with a the same 530 chain with the 15/50 set up? Basically all I really have to buy is the back sprocket? I will be replacing all 3 anyway but just making sure before I buy,thx for the help
