As an Ex Yamaha service engineer I can tell you one thing for certain yamaha neutrals a bitch to find I have abatch of RD400's and they have ALL got a FALSE neutral between 2 & 3rd gear. The FZR I have when the bike is running & I look for neutral I MUST rock the bike PERIOD to get neutral.

I must just be lucky, I routinely beat on mine and am always able to find nuetral without a problem and rarely get a false neutral. Good luck, Geo knows his stuff so he's probably right. Mine only has trouble when first started and the oil is cold as far as shifting goes, have you tried after riding around a bit to get the oil thinned out some? Maybe try some sea foam and see if it's gunked up from sitting?

there's a write up in the wiki on the sea foam usage I think, I don't run it normally in my oil since when I ran it right before a change the stuff came out so dang thin but as a one time treatment to get the gunk out like I mentioned I would guess it does a good job. I only say guess due to having not taken my motor apart after or before using it, just seeing the oil I treated with it.

have you thought simple and tried to adjust the linkage and then lock it back in with the jam nuts?
