I feel ''special''right now... I have done alot of brakes, but these are kickin me in the pants right now... I put some new steel braided lines with the two lines right off the master cylinder instead of the single and splitter. But now after the swap, I cant ket the fluid to run through the lines and out the end without the fluid pushing out then sucking back in with air again... pumping the lever till my hand gave out trying to prime the line since new ones were empty... even tried putting other end in a bowl of fluid to help keep from sucking air back in... still wont get a firm lever back, still mushy with about 1/2 inch of actual resistance... my buddy came by and he still couldnt get this thing worked out either. This is a mysery to me, a quirk unique to me and driving me flippin nuts! I checked stickys, brake posts, googled my butt off, and everything seemed simpler and 'worked' whats going on? I thought maybe the master cyclinder gave out, but why after new lines, and they never had issues up till the second I touched the lines. this should have been a simple change compared to everything else Ive done on this beast... yet... here I am... PLEASE HELP!!! I feel like the guy thats never worked on ANYTHING. Simple hydraulic knowledge tells me I cant be doing anything wrong, maybe these yamaha's had a time vortex installed into their, resevoir on master cylinder quandry of lightyears beyond all knowledge asian type contrustruction.
Do I have to sacrifice a chicken first and then walk backwards to the bike while chanting,,?

Re: Brakes driving me nuts!!! ARGGHH
Guess you did not follow Uncle George's advice & buy a banjo bolt with BLEED valve for where the two lines hit the brake master cylinder. You did remember to replace the copper washers with new ones ? (you can on ocassion heat these to red heat & anneal them )
DO NOT BREATHE IN THE FUMES from HOT BRAKE FLUID when heating. washers !!!!
The other trick a lot of guys use is a pump from the calipers upwards to fill the lines & master cylinder.

You shouldn't need a chicken and I bet you are not holding your tongue just right. j/k. Bleeding these brakes can be a PITA. I have the same setup as you, individual SS brainded lines to each front caliper. I ran into the same consternation as you as well. What worked for me was reverse bleeding with a Phoenix injector. I held the brake lever half way closed with a zip tie and I forced brake fuild up from the calipers to the MC.
I know others have used a Mity Vac and sucked the fluid down from the MC.
There isn't any ancient Chineese secert to this brake system it is the same as any other. If you have a soft lever you still have air in the system. The problem can get compounded as the more you pump the MC the finer you make the air bubbles in the fluid and hence exacerbate the situation. So I wouldn't go ape crazy when I'm pulling the brake lever as you are liable to to make lots and lots of Don Ho tiny bubbles in the brake fluid. Smooth deliberate strokes on the brake lever.
Oh yeah 'unc George has a good suggetion as well.

MityVac <-Click There
The Reverse Bleeding with a Syringe Method <-Click There
I happen to have the Mityvac and went from dry brakes to fully bled in about 20 minutes. And that was doing both front and back.

Re: Brakes driving me nuts!!! ARGGHH
I tried something crazy and it worked, I loosened the bleeder, forced air in to pressurize the lines and then pumped fluid down like a normal brake bleed and just bled all the air out while pouring fluid in the resevoir. Sounds crazy and stupid but it worked. Brakes are spectacular now, no more squishy lines, and no give from the rubber lines expanding anymore. Nice, but I can tell Im going to need to be more carefull on the front hand brake now. Thanks for the help guys, and yes Im still going to put a bleeder on the banjo for future use. Had a mity vac in storage, but it doesnt do me any good when its not even on the same continent as me. hehe
