91 FZR600 with no spark?

Ok my Fzr won't start... When I got it, it was torn apart to have the carbs cleaned. Well I put it back together & wasn't getting any fuel to the carbs, so I borrowed a fuel pump & am atleast getting fuel to the carbs! Now I found I'm not getting any spark either. So I pulled the spark plugs, they were pretty nasty so I cleaned them up & put them back in. Same thing.... bike will turn over but won't even try to start. What else can I check without replacing a bunch of parts to narrow down what might be wrong?

get your self some new plugs, if the plugs looked nasty , and although you have cleaned them up they still might be no good , it will be a case of elimination

I second this. I couldn't get my bike to fire even though the plugs have less than 3000 miles. And I took them out sanded them and everything. Still nothing. Bought new plugs for 5.25 each, fires. Presto! Magic! She still doesn't run great but I know the plugs aren't the problem.

Chris.

+5
Make sure to charge the battery overnight BEFORE trying you new plugs and be sure to gap them according to the manual. They are NOT preset correctly for the bike.

Spark plug gap range for the 600 should be .028-.032 if I recall correctly. I would set it at .030. Also, the Autolite 4303 is the cheaper equivalent to the NGK plugs. Numerous people have run them with no issues.

You've checked the pick up coil and stator (generator)?

Nope... I'll check that out tomorrow when I have time! I know that stator has been changed but not sure if it was the correct one or if it even works

tried to check for continuity on the kickstand switch... didn't read anything with kickstand up or down. Is there a temporary bypass to try?

I think you jumper the two wires together but someone else needs to confirm that for ya.

I switched the wires around for the coil parks so I get spark on #1& #4, so that tells me both my coil packs are good, I'm just not getting any power to the 1 coil... What could possibly cause that?

Both coils share the same power source, the cable connects directly to coil #2 & #3, there's a branch from this cable that connects to coil #1 & #4, probably the branch connection has corroded/broken. see the wiring diagram (scroll to bottom of page) http://fzronline.com/wiki/doku.php?id=park_turn_signals
