Ok im a nebbie, i have been reading alot of post and like alot of options my old bike has, :headscratch: first things first, i bought a 97 fzr bout 3 years ago after not riding for over 10 years lol kids. well after riding a couple years i went and bought a newer and more modern bike :duh: ( without knowing what the fzr could offer me) 06 gixxer sorry guys, there is nothing wrong wit my fzr except the right side fairing flew off on a ride, never to be found, now with that being said i dont like the look, but do like my options, swing arm upgrade, r6 tail swap and the yzf tank, i would love for the front end to look more like the r6, LOVE the headlights, but not a must like the first 3 i mentioned. My ?s are what kind of cost am i looking at? How big of a job?( most i done to a bike is spockets and chain swap) but got alot of common sense, and time since i have a running bike. Third is i know the bike virtually went unchanged for almoast a decade, what about the plastics, what years are compatiable with my 97? i have the bike for sale but leaning more towards the fix up if it aint to much for me to handle. So i need and hope to get any and all advice :notworthy:

Swinger swap is about $600 or so if you do the YZF mod. It all depends on what you can source for what price. The rear wheel seems to be the most expensive part of that mod. All years plastic will work out side of the '91-'92 front fairing (single headlight vs. double). Hit the wiki, tons of good how-to mods there from folks that have done them. YZF tank, swinger mods, front end swaps etc. Your only limit is your bank account and your imagination. Oh and Welcome!

What part of Southern IL are you from? I'm here close to Cape Girardeau and we do rides though IL often. Welcome by the way. I didn't put that in the other post that I wrote back to you.

Chris.

With a $1,500 budget, you can do a ton of things. The biggest limitation will be your ability to find a deal. The market took a huge hit do to the economy. But it is starting to bounce back now. 4 weeks ago I could have bought 05 or 06 USD R6 forks for under $150. Now those forks are $300. The deals are still out there, you just need to look and not be afraid to go after them when you see it.

If I can give a suggestion, look around at everything and do some digging and tracking on eBay for prices so you know what to expect. Do this while you get an idea of what parts you want to use. If you tell yourself you have to have a certain part, you can be limiting the funds for other mods indirectly. For example, most people love the single sided swingarm I've done, but they freak when I tell them the 8 spoke rear wheel runs $400 shipped (used) since most of them barely spent more to get the bike in the first place. Just take your time and get a plan together. It will make things easier in the long run. Oh, and come in under budget. The cost of bolts adds up pretty quick at the local hardware store.

Good deal, I sorta know where this is. I work for a company that has a sister company in Carbondale. Travel there often. Most of the local rides are benefit and don't make it much further that anna. Might have to look into further out.
