parts bike

Post by catman22 »

Hi, i have a 1993 fzr 600 and am going to look at a parts bike, no motor or fairings, between the years 1989 - 1992 it has the dual headlights, so 92 is out but i am wondering just how much of the bike would be interchangable to mine. i seems like a really good deal of 200 bucks, new back tire on it and everything else supposedly worked before the blown motor. Any info or advice would be appreciated as the fzr is hard as hell to find in New Brunswick Canada.

Probably 90%. The swingarm is smaller on the 89 along with the fork lowers being set up for 2 pot calipers instead of 4. There's also engine differences as well like the canister bath style oil filter being one of them (Someone more familiar can chime in and give more detail) . Only difference the 91-92 bikes had was the upper fairing, the fairing stays, and head light.

Just read this post. I have a -92 and am looking at a set of fairings (upper, lower, rear) including head- and taillights from a 1994 model. Are you saying that the 94 upper fairing will not fit a 92 fairing stay? Is it difficult to make it fit or do I also need a 94 stay?

$200 seems like a good deal, esp. with the new rear tire. the 89 and 90+ swingarms difference are easy to spot.

90+ swingarm (beefier and thickens towards pivot)

89 swingarm (squared all the way to pivot)

equinoxlb, the 94 upper will not fit on the 92 stay without major modification, plus the 94 has saul round lights and the 92 has a single, if you are planning to change over to the round, you will need the lights, wiring harness, and stay to make it work.
I did that.

I might as well ask here... is the 89 swing aluminum or steel? Not sure if it shared the same swinger as the 400s.

89 is steel. my first bike was an 89 and it was rusting a bit. not sure on the 400 swingarms aside from the 90 that i had...and sold.
I did that.

I don't believe that the 400s had anything but aluminum.

I did not know that about the swingarms. Is the 90+ swingarm a bolt up to the 89 bike? Do you need a 90+ axle? The 90+ looks much nicer and I am sure it is stronger.
