THROTtLE CABLES

Post by PIMPMYFZR »

I has to change my starter button becuase everytime i push it in it never wants to come back out so i would have to push it in and pull it out from bottom with my nail ,lol . So as i dissassembled the control box my throttle cables came undone .. so i tried to put them back one of them is the gas i suppose .. but whats the other cable on the backside? it started coming out its self and i just pushed it back in . When i give it gas my throttle goes back to its postition very slowly. Now im wondering if this cable on the backside has anything todo with it . Sorry if this doesnt make sense .

the other cable pulls the throttle back as its attached to the other side of the throttle setup so the throttle wont stay open.

Yep second cable is as important as the first. Check to make sure that your throttle handle isn't binding along side the run/off switch housing and thereby contributing to your slow return to the closed position. That thing should "snap" closed and you should want it to "snap" closed. If it doesn't there's a problem somewhere.

You could not worry about it and use it as a cruise control... :no

There is no snap back motion when I had it disassembled. It had no pull on it infact, I think I could of pulled it out. I think I will have to check once I get home tonight from work.

Well this sucks , I get home after working 13 damn hours on my feet . Been waitin all day to come home and rise ,I suit up get ready togo and as i start my throttle makes a clickin noise .. i take off gas cover ,, pop off airbox . damn i see a cable dangling around by the carbs , i have no clue .. so i take the starter switch box apart and the dam wire pulls right out
this is what i need
Image
this is what i got lol
Image
well after scratching head thinkin where to get one tonight and getting back to reality
i put it back handlebar control back together without this cable , took it for a spin didnt seem to dangerous as long as i have control of the throttle .
Whats the worse case scenerio that could happen if i choose to ride it like this till my replacement comes in
BTW anyone have one of these laying around before i get one on ebay . thanks

Since it won't snap back into place you run the risk of full out gas in a panic. Or at stoplights if you don't put it back to idle it'll get really annoying for other around you. I doubt it will be an issue till the new one comes in. Just makes for one more thing you need to remember though which takes some attention off what's going on around you. Just be smart about it.

If you got the money to fix it then I'd fix it. If you are broke like me then you ride it and save up for a new cable. :P
Good luck

This will be another withdrawl from your $10.00 account while you are riding. This probably sounds like some secret code to some of you. But if you have every laied a finger on "A Twist of the Wrist" by Keith Code it will make perfect sense.

Bottom line is there is an infamtizmal amountof data that you process while riding a bike. All of this data processing comes at some expense to everyone's mental capacity. When you have to overly tax the thinking that is requied when riding you are more apt to missing something that under normal circumstances you would have detected. Ride safe my friend.

Some dealerships can make cables on the spot. Or you might get lucky enough to fine an OE cable laying on the dealerships shelf.
