fzr600 wont switch to second gear

So i was riding my fzr the other day and i rev it hard in 1st gear and i tried to shift to second but it wouldn't go to second anymore. so i rode home in first the rest of the way. This has never happened to me before, my 1st and neutral work fine and there are no other problems. I just can't shift anymore. I read the posts and the how to transmission in wiki. I thought it was the shift forks, which i understand is a common problem with fzrs. So i took off the oil pan and took out the shift forks, shafts and drum and put in different ones from another engine i had. The left shift fork had a little wear on it from where i can see where it was hitting something, i guess the transmission gears. When i put in the other shift forks and all the parts i could change the gears and move the bike back and forth but the wheel would lock up. Also there were some small metal shaving in the oil pan, so i think something broke and is caught up in the transmission and preventing it from getting into second gear. Also the (pushrod) i think its called was broken or welded to the cover that goes over the front sprocket. I took out all the shift forks and the transmission should spin freely like on my spare motor but it lock up and then i can spin the other way then it locks up again. The last step im on now is: i took the engine out of the bike and am gonna start inspecting it. The guy i got my spare engine from with 46,000 miles says is works so i maybe if i cant find the problem i can put that one back in for a while..
also my oil light had came on a couple times, but i just put some oil in it so the light went off and it was always hard to get into 2nd gear...
any help please?
