my engines back in! and I painted my frame!! yay!

So everyone that doesn't know, there was about 300 lbs of shingles dropped on my bike in March..and it sat for so long (didn't have time to work on it or the money to buy paint) that my coil pack rusted out and crapped out on me. So I did the Escort coil pack mod and put in carbon spark plug wires and new spark plugs with a wider gap, when I changed the plugs I got shingle bits under the spark plug's compression rings and lost compression, so it wouldn't start. I had to pull the engine out and clean around the spark plug seats. Also checked the valve lash while I had it out. I never got a payment from the guy that did it, I should have reported it instead of taking him at his word. So now after putting about 30 hours of labor in it to fix what he screwed up, it's all been in my spare time and I haven't gotten a dime out of him.

So now I can happily say that yesterday I put the engine back in and painted the frame, and today I finished connecting all of the plugs on the harness, put the carbs back on and everything else. I have to do some stuff to my header before I crank it, so it isn't back on yet, and I am changing my waterpump out just to be safe, since it's been sitting with no water/coolant in it for nearly a year, I don't trust the pump right now, especially since it's going on 20 years old. I have time to wait, since I don't have cash I can't get the registration right now, so I'm in no rush to do the other little things that need to be done to it.

Everything that was damaged or scratched has been repainted: center of rotors, engine covers, triple tree, tail, frame, foot pegs and small things like that, and the gas tank had to be sanded down to the metal to be repainted right. My perfect R6 seats have some scratches on them that I can't get out, thank God there are no rips, and my left turn signal is broken and only half of the LED's work, so I need to get a new one of those when I get the cash. New paint scheme is gloss black and flat black with yellow accents and stickers, so it looks nothing like my profile picture anymore. I'm loving the way it looks now, can't wait to get the header on and crank her up, she's been sitting waaay too long.

And another plus, I've been talking to this cute girl that used to ride a Ninja, she wrecked it and broke her legs, hasn't owned a bike since, she doesn't mind getting greasy and helping me with my bike (another +), and I told her about my friend who is selling his Ninja 636, she's interested in it and might get it, then we could cruise. Things seem to be working out, both with the bike and the girl, so I'm happy, also had a good Christmas, invited the girl over for Christmas lunch/dinner since she was away from her fam so we hung out all day, I got a bluetooth helmet from my parents and made tamales, really good tamales! When I start making money again then everything will be going even better.

So that's my update on everything..I've been away from the forums for a while with the exception of the classifieds section because of the bike I'm parting out.

oh, hey 95, the 99 - 02 R6 in your profile picture..there was something I have been wondering about it for a while..I know it's carbureted and yamaha managed to pull 120ish hp from a carbureted 600cc bike. I've been trying to figure out how Yamaha got about 10 - 15 more hp than everyone else that made a carbureted 600cc around the same time. What all does it have extra on it? Like, for example, the way the YZF600R has all of the extra stuff on the air intake so the carburetors can better handle the forced air from the road, and how it has the TPS on the carbs for timing advance, they did that to a modified FZR engine to pull 100+hp. Does the carb'd R6 have the same modifications? Or was it just designed better?

Because they didn't. If it did, it would have lost over 25hp from crank to wheel based on Factory Pro Dyno. The 120 was probably a pre production advertising figure that everyone grabbed on to. All the bikes of this time had rather optomistic figures of one kind or another. Speedometer error was another big problem.

i was comparing hp and torque of the yzf600r and r6 engine to see the difference and the torque is only like 1.5 ftlbs difference but the 600r get there about 2k sooner at 9500.with 120 hp on the r6 and 100 on the 600r. thats what is advertised but that dosent mean they all had that. if you ask me torque is everything, its not the fzr engine but close

120BHP on an R6? Who's been fettling that then - Nasa? MCN just tested every single variant of the R6 and the most powerful dyno'd at 109 BHP, and the earliest model at 99. All this talk of 120+ BHP figures from the crate for the R6 is tosh. Even the '09 GSXR600 was touted to make north of 130BHP, but only gave 112 on the rollers. Lies, damned lies, and R6 bar talk.

2.7ft lbs more torque on the most powerful R6 variant over the 91BHP non EXUP FZR, but the FZR peaks at 8200ish compared to 11,000 for the R6. I test rode 2 R6's last year, a late carb and an 07 injection, and on a suitable road they're mentallistic, but boy you gotta work hard and plan ahead - no midrange to rely on to make opportunistic manoeuvers. Not such a nice daily real-road-traffic-and-diesel-spill dodger as a properly sorted Fizzer (a knackered Fizzer is another matter entirely), but if you're the sort that rides at 10/10ths all the time then sweet. I'm hoping for a late carb one later this year to complement my fizzer, but it's strengths lie in a different area to the older bike so I wouldn't consider solely as a replacement.

I'm glad your Fizzer is on the road to recovery Match - did you get any recompense in the end from the chumps that damaged it?

I never got anything from them. The guy that did the work lives in my area, so I see his truck all the time and I know where he lives. I also have his number so I call him a lot and he usually never calls back. I only really have to put $100 into the bike, replace broken turn signal and other little things like that. Everything else was just labor, so I'm not exactly paying a lot of money out of pocket unless you factor in time.

Take him to Judge Judy! I can't believe he has any customers left if he treats peoples property like that.

haha, yeah, I think she's in mainland US, she would destroy him..lol. Him and his company was cutting down a tree at the peoples house across the street a few months ago and I just walked over there while he was talking to my neighbor and started asking him about the money (in a non-rude way). His work truck is an early 80's chevy full size pickup with a faded paint job and rusted out. I really don't think he even has the money, and now it's been 9 months, it's way too late to take him to court I think. I have a few cop friends that I could ask about what I could do, but I figure if I keep bugging him he can't ignore me forever. One day I'll get through. I should have filed a claim when it happened.
