question 1:
Does the fork tool that I made for my FZR forks also work on all of the other (non-inverted) forks by Yamaha? What about other makes? And does it work on inverted forks?

question 2:
it's been a while since I messed with the water pump, I remember the oil pump being behind it, but I don't remember if the oil leaks out with the water pump is removed. I have another w/p and want to change it out, but I don't have the cash to spend on new oil, so I would have to bottle up my old oil, that's just a hassle, I would rather change the w/p without draining the oil. Is it possible?

Answer:
Not "ALL" since different bikes had different configurations but I suspect quite a few. One example is the The Seca II as it had the same size forks as the FZR600 (hence being able to swap the top clamp with no mods).

Answer:
Quite possible as other makes did do similar configurations

And does it work on inverted forks?
Answer:
I would say No. I also made the fork tool to use on my 92 FZR600's forks and that same tool was useless on my current bike- a 94 FZR1000 (which has USD forks-as you can see in my sig).

Yamaha had about 10 fork tools that they wanted to supply my company at mega-bucks and that was way back in the 80's,
On the three yamaha models I still own it is 3 seperate tool.

USD forks are a totally diifferent tool set.


Do tools swap between makes Yes as far as non inverted go (used mine on Honda & Suzuki.
USD onlt ever used mine on Ducati forks so no help from me there. But consider KYB/ Ohlins make most of the big 4 front shocks I would say there should be some swapping available.

And as for the water pump, if you pull the whole pump out, you have a giant hole in your engine. If you could prop it leaning to the right, you might be OK, but as the bike sits naturally, yeah, big mess.

Match, do you have any diagrams with emasurements for your fork tool? I'm soon at the stage of stripping mine and I'll need one.

When I made mine, I took about a 18" piece of steel tube, I think it was 3/4" and welded a 5/8" nut on either end. Worked like a charm.

3ft x 5/8" threaded rod with 6 matching nuts. The PVC tube is 1.75in diameter (I think-I'd have to go dig it up and measure it again) and was used as the driver to set in the new seal.

All I did with mine is get my friend that works in construction to grab a piece of rebar from his jobsite and I stuck a 5/8 nut on the end of it. The nut just barely stuck on the end, then it was just a couple tack welds. The nut was galvanized so I had to grind it down a little

Try reading yer mates web site you know the old duffer's one has all the help you need on making all the tooling
