Re: rear brake upgrade
I don't know of any real upgrades for the rear caliper. The YZF600 appears to be the same model and type. The best upgrade for the rear, if you really want to, is getting a stainless line for it. I never use my rear brake, even at Track Days, so mine have always been left stock including the stock hose.

Re: rear brake upgrade
The rear caliper is the same PN as the YZF600, so its no upgrade. There arent any that are a direct swap. But like Rage said, a stainless line will help, and you can upgrade the master cylinder to a brembo R1 unit. All you need to do is swap the plunger from the FZR to the R1 master. Its longer.
Re: rear brake upgrade
Not trying to offend but that would be a huge waste of time and money. Even if you can do the work yourself. The rear brake provides MAYBE 15-20% of the stopping power on a motorcycle. The stock setup is more than enough to lock the rear up without a problem. If yours isn't doing so I would give the current caliper a serious once over before going to drastic measures. Almost every high end bike uses a 2 piston rear caliper. The reason is simple. The rear brake just doesn't do enough to warrant more stopping power than that. Get a stainless steel line, upgrade to the Brembo R1 if you'd like although the only difference is about a 1mm wider plunger and it says Brembo on the side. Try some new pads. Some EBC sintered pads will provide enough grab to more than lock it up. Especially if you add the SS line. The real issue is being able to modulate the caliper. That comes from predictable operation for the most part. Consistent grab on the pads, as little flex in the line as possible, smooth pedal actuation; All factors in predictable operation. Make sure what you have on there is running properly and that's about all the upgrade you'll really need.91fzr600r wrote:yeah i was afraid that there wasn't a real bolt on upgrade. i wanted to get a little info befor i machene a new braket to bolt up a 4 piston 2004 r6 front caliper to the rear
Unless you're doing it for the sake of doing it. At that point it's a whole other argument.

Re: rear brake upgrade
well i already have a stainless line, rebuilt caliper and master cylinder and EBC pads. and it works good. but im always looking to upgrade any part i can. i have a small machine shop so making parts isn't an issue.. the more bolt on upgrades means less work for me. plus if im working on machining parts im not ridding! and that sucks! but i love the info. and this site is AWSOME

9T if you are looking to "bling" the rear brake set up Brembo is as good as any + you could do this:-

Towards the end of the page is the GP race bike rear brake set up as it can be done on an FZR6 Nerd

Re: rear brake upgrade
Sorry for being a little johnny-come-lately on this thread! I agree 100% with Rage and TK. Piggy-backing on Darrin's comment about not using the rear brake on track days, I'll add that MANY racers do not even touch the rear brake. If you watch some of these guys braking before turning into the corner, you'll often see the rear wheel come off the ground a couple (to a few) inches. The LAST thing you need at that point is to be applying the rear brake and have the wheel stop rotating on you!!! Better to have it still rotating when it regains contact with the pavement again. I'm not saying you're going to be full on braking like they do but I think it illustrates the point that the rear brake doesn't do as much as most people think it does. On the other hand, there is a fine art to using the rear when leaned over (I am by NO MEANS an expert!). Basically, if you DO need to slow down a bit (and I mean a BIT) during a turn, using the rear is way more gentle on the chassis. In other words, the front end won't dive on you thereby throwing the bike's geomtery out of whack and possibly sending you to the ground! If you do the mod though, pics would be great!
