just like the title says

i have a 1989,which we all know has a hand full of different parts compared to the 1991 and up

i just wondered if i could take a rear shock assembly from any other year FZR 600 and swap it out with mine without any problems?

If you are not happy with your current shock :-
look for a FOX twin clicker (rare and expensive)
GSXR 6 shock,
R6 shock

the latter 2 will require some very well documented modification with guys on this list selling the required parts at reasonable prices to board members.

so the last 2 shocks you listed will bolt right up??

any certain years i should be lookin for?

Actually, I bought the shock off EBay and had the spacers and dogbones made locally. He DID hook me up with his adjustable dogbones though which will probably make their way onto the track bike (which has an Ohlins on it). If he had the complete swap set-up back when I changed mine over on the 600 I would've been all over it like flys on.... well you get the idea...

Unless it was made specifically for the FZR it won't be 100% bolt on.

Here are some examples of what has been tried and proven to work:
06 R6 (Red Spring with a Low Slung Horizontal Reservoir)
07 GSXR 600/750 (Yellow Spring Low Slung Horizontal Reservoir)
01 FZ1(this requires swapping in the FZR600 spring)

If i still had an FZR600 I would go with one of the three I just mentioned (unless an Ohlins, Penski, or Fox fell into my life magically). ReelRazor happens to sell complete kits using the R6 shock I mentioned. These are COMPLETE bolt on kits. No guess work. And no, he's not paying me to be a spokesperson...Click here for more details.

Seriously though, the Gixxer shock in it's various permutations is a straightforward and effective conversion.
