hi boys and girls i am new to the group and new to yamaha street bikes

...i own a 1989 fzr 600 now use to own a busa...i need some help on some thing ...i was riding my bike the other day and it started stalling like it was running out of gas i would hold the throttle back all the way and it would barley run i ended up having to push it home when i got home it would not even start just keep turing over.

..i left for an hour or so and when i cmae back decided to see if it would start and it did fired right up no prob...when i went to leave for work it would not start at all....now i checked for spark and it has it but doesnt seem to reach the end of the plug ????

i went thru with a freind of mine and cleaned and adjusted all the carbs to the 22mm on the floats and since then it was running fine untill this happen ..i took the stator off today and dont see any thing bad !!!!! does anybody have any clue on what be wrong with this thing??????

i have totally repainted the hole bike and put a ton of money into to it to make it road worty and i only have about 2 weeks of good riding left so i want to ride this thing ...any help would be great or if anyone knows of a way to test the c.d.i or coils or stator or even the voltage reg...and the specs if you do know how to test them...thanks travis ..

Welcome to our community and hope you find your needs met.

If the spark is inside the plug not at the tip, I would be trying fresh plugs (prefereably precious metal single point plugs (iridium?) ) and gapping them propoerly.

Take alook at the SEARCH facility here as thei topic is usually a new members 1st Question (might not be an 89 but they all work the same )

In the WIKI there should be a Flow chart of what to check if such and such does not work.


One thing about this mob is that we do tend to document stuff for those who come after us with what we have already done / solved/ banged our heads on etc.

Hiya -

I just wanted to mention jetting. When the weather changed here in Arizona, my bike started cutting out the same way you described. I later had the carb jets reset and that cured the problem (also check your EXUP value adjustment). It seems my jets were set for colder weather, and when it warmed up here, the heat from the engine was vaporizing too much of the fuel ... or something like that (I'm not very mechanical). But that's what my mechanic said. Hope this helps.
