Sputtering / Clanking

Post by asdfghwy »

Okay so I got my rim from Target30, got the new chain/sprockets install and I'm ready to go right? Wrong. Whenever I try to take off I stall, and I HIGHLY doubt its a driver error, no matter how slow I let it out, or no matter how much I rev it it will stall. Sometimes when I do get it moving, if I let go of the throttle it will just die on me.

Also, it doesn't feel like it has full power all the time, sometimes it will be really sloppy and other times it rips through the powerband

The bike does idle fine and will start 1st or 2nd time.

I dont know whats wrong! I've been able to drive it a couple times around the block (1st time riding a motorcycle by the way ----- AWESOME) but these problems are a buzzkill! :(

What could be wrong?

rim change alone wouldnt do that but i wonder if the carbs need gone through and your chain is too tight. Describe the clunking if you dont care. Also have you done anything else to the motor? Are you sure ur starting in 1st all the time? It sounds intermittent. If you give more details folks on here will be able to help you more efficiently

Ran some carb cleaner, and it seems to be running 100% better then it was before the clanking is mainly gone except when "bogging" / at a very low rpm and decellling

The clanking you hear is that when riding or just when the bike is parked ?

If when riding put the bike up on a rear stand, start it put it in gear and see what your chain is doing, it is either way tight and causing the jerking or way loose and slapping around maybe against the swing arm.

It's only at low RPMs, or when your bogging like 3rd @ 20mph but when you're moving at a steady pace and with any type of throttle input it sounds normal

Hi,
Well I would put the bikes rear wheel in the air and try running it to see if it is the drive chain.

The other thing it could be slapping around is the timing chain (not good news ) within the engine itself how many miles on the clock?

Saying all that the FZR is NOT known to like low speed/rpm settings and if you go thro past posts almost all of us have bitched about that.

yeah 3rd at 20mph is going to not sound so hot i would think. you need to be in first @ 20mph i would think. unless you have a huge sprockets
