swingarm/chain problem

So my chain keeps spontaneously tightening and loosening. I will set it just right then a week later it will be looser than a five dollar hooker. Then I reset it, drive it for a mile and its tighter than twelve year old virgin and feels like its ready to snap. So I'll reset it again and ride it around a bit and it will feel fine, then I'll crash and check the next morning, fine still, then by the time I get to work its tightening up again. What I don't get is the adjusting thing on the back of the swingarm isn't moving at all. It's in the same god damn place the whole time. DIRTY WHORE OF A CHAIN!!!

see if your sprockets warped or worn out

I know its worn but how would that cause the chain to tighten and loosen like that?

when the chain and sprocket are worn you get wider groves between the teath and when the chain wears its the pins that the rolers are on that wear out and depending on where the rollers and sprocket line up at the time of adjustment it could be tight then you adjust and then it goes extra loose. just too much play to stay adjusted. you can also check your cush drive

in other words the parts of the chain stretch unevenly which is why you can adjust it and then move forward and it be loose again.

And, for the entire chain to pass over the rear sprocket..the rear wheel/sprocket has to turn 2.37 times (assuming 45t rear sprocket).

In that same amount of chain rotation..the chain turns the front sprocket 7.1 times (assuming 15t front sprocket).

So, if each sprocket has a slightly high spot....and the chain has a slightly tight spot....they will all come into the 'perfect' tight alignment combo every 17 (approximatley) rotations of the rear wheel
