Thats located under the left side tail fairing, yeah? How hot is it supposed to get? Mine is getting finger burning hot after a minute or two. I don't want to take it out if I'm going to end up riding a flaming ball.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to do that. I'm just wondering if the heat is normal and whether or not its safe to ride for the next few days.

they usually just catch fire...no biggie

I'm bidding on a 2002 R6 VR now....
I'm not going to ride until then as mine seems to be leaking and stinks also. Wouldn't that be something if it had something to do with my erratic idle.
Will something like this work in the meantime?

I bought 2 at the same time while I was having my charging problems, and they both didn't work. One as a back-up.
Voltage was at 12. something volts at 3000 rpm. Waste of my money and I couldn't return them.
No return on electrical parts as they stated.

thieves.
Thank goodness for the YZF/R6 VR swap.
might be different though...
any r1, r6 VR will work.
just do a good search...I was lucky that the PO of my bike put one on

I'll wait out the bid I have on one currently. I picked up an oem from here to tide me over for a week.

The stink you smelled? Did it stink like rotten eggs?
Check your battery's fluid. You probably boiled it.

The VR smoked, solder actually burnt right through the silicone. However, it did take a new battery with it. I topped it off with distilled water, but it will still only hold a surface charge of 11.9v. I'm going to replace it when I upgrade the VR. The last thing I need is this other stock VR taking out a new battery.

Make sure it is topped up and give it a loooong slow trickle charge (.5amp)..keep checking the fluid and rocking it to let the gas bubbles escape. As long as there is good lead left on the plates you can recover that battery. It may take a couple cycles but it's probably not a goner now.

Ok, I got it today. One thing though, it has 6 terminals. I thought it was supposed to have 5?
