ok well i feel kinda stupid asking this but i was just having a conversation with somebody about this and i am not sure now,lol ok is it ok to use regular oil made for a car in a bike. say 10w-40 yamalube or any other version of oil for a bike compared to 10w-40 made for a car. i always thought it was the same stuff as long as u were comparing the same viscosity and conventional to conventional or synthetic to synthetic. somebody let me know if imwrong or not.

i always thought if the viscosity was the same it was just brand preference thanks for the knowledge

car oil has some extra adds in them that makes the wet clutch slip.Bike oil has these left out.
The good bike oils have a wider operation temp range which low quality car oils wont have.
Trying to save on oil prices is not great long term plan.They differences even between different bike oils is quite large.
Oils here will list the types of protection they offer.Temp ranges and level of synthetics etc.

The only stupid question is the one you do not ask because you will never KNOW the answer.

Yes you are wrong Viscosity is only part of the story there are standards (SAE?) numbers of the grade which is a standard in which is listed all the additives in the oil. Now some are benfiscial and some are down right harmful to wet clutch bikes (such as ours)

The problem is that one your cork plates absorb some of this additive it a PITA to get out & get the clutch to actually grab and do its job. In the worst case scenario the corks let the clutch spin & slip thus heating the steels blue'ing and warping them beyond their limit . The next clutch job is then NEW corks & New steels & most likely NEW springs.

Rather ahigh price for saving a dime on the oil change.

Ask yourself if oil is the life blood of the engine would you as a person pay for thoroughly checked blood transfusion or some dime bag hookers blood .?

Diesel oil does not have those additive and that is why a lot of motorcyclists run Shell Rotella in their bikes. That is what I ran without any issue in my FZR.

ive been running rotella 5w40 in my 250 ninja for about 10000 miles and havent had any issue at all also have talked to people with 100000 miles on there bike with the same oil and no issue
