Lowering the pegs???

I just did 150 miles on the 600 in the twisty colorado mountains
My hips and knees feel like a did 1000 miles
Problem is I'm 6'4" and no matter how much I move around my thighs just end up being too high for too long and my hips start killing me... Anyone else tall find a way to fix this problem? I suppose there is raising the seat too. but i like the way I kind of "fit into the bike" with the way the seat is now. I know that lowering the pegs might lose me some ground clearance, but in reality I don't do track days so how often is it going to be a problem...
Any input is appreciated....especially if there is a CHEEP solution!!!
Thanks,
Mark

I think the cheap solution might well be adding foam to the seat.
It would be easy to try and see if another inch or two makes life on your legs any better.
There are rearsets available for The FZR6..but I think adjustment is limited to back and UP.....
There's always Yoga! (seriously, some stretches are never a bad idea...you are going out to do some physical activity...would you NOT stretch and play league softball?)

It will be uncomfortable but eventually your body will get used to it your muscles that you don't usually use will build up
make sure to hug the tank with your knees
otherwise lower pegs on an FZR would get unsafe at a point - i haven't heard of it done

if you get os that are set farther back it will bring your knees down.
lowering them in unsafe.

I would think it's more of moving the pegs back and slightly up as opposed to down. That would get your knees at lower angle and relieve whatever pressure is causing the hip pain. A set of rearsets can help achieve that.
Maybe try this:

Wow 4 replies in no time, shouldn't you guys be out riding?! Seriously though, thanks for the input. Bigger bike is on the agenda, but not before I finish putting my wife through nursing school....
Its not like I'm not is shape, but at some point maintaining your legs bent at the hips causes circulation issues and can lead to major problems like DVT where you actual get clots in the big vessels in your legs

I may try the foam, but the best option may be to stop more often and walk around for a couple of minutes, I'm thinking once an hour should do it? I only stopped once in 3+ hours which probably is not enough. New/better foam to raise the seat might be in the future too. Anybody have a stock seat pan laying around they don't need?!

Another thing is that i will extend my left leg straight out on my gsxr at low speeds it usually loosens things up for me- but i'm only 6 ft

It doesn't take much adjustment to get you back in a more comfortable position. Those of us racing 125s often have to modify our machines just to survive a 10-15min sprint race! At 6'2" on a bike set up for someone 5'4", life can get interesting. Extended rearsets (I have +2") and thicker seat foam (5/8" vs 1/4") is the difference between riding hard and pulling off because your legs are numb. A friend of mine was getting bloody toes from his shifter - he could NOT get the lever on the boot pad. An extra 1/2" of seat foam was the solution.

I'm 6'3" and have the exact same issue. After long rides my left hip kills me. I've been eyeballing some of these corbin seats to try and change my positioning. But the more I ride the 600 the less I notice some of the pain. Not sure if I'm just getting used to it or I'm becoming numb to the pain. I also find that if I keep my back and shoulders square I also have less pain in the lower extremeties.
BTW where are you riding in CO? I used to live out there but had no bike and I can only imagine how fun some of those mountain passes would be to ride in the summer. Like BERTHOUD!!!!!

Hi,
I can sympathise at 6-2 and being a bit older than these more flexible "kids" :-}
An easy solution with two bits of alloy scrap plate , a rule, a nail & a good sharp drill bit in your electric drill.
take a look at :-

I am refering to the two pieces of very holey alloy plate that act as a mounting grid for the pegs.

Nah all off mine have been from the far east and the west indies where they are naturally far more agile, imaginative, flexible & graceful than any woman of my own race some of whom were serious dancers in the Corp de Ballet. I do remember some silly hippy bitch who practiced Yoga and spent about an hour a day practising when she could have spent time with me getting a good sweat :-} and been far happier & flexible than she was when it was time to be with her man .
