I recently purchase a '94 FZR600. I was getting on the interstate and so I wanted to push the acceleration. When I was in first gear I hit about 9000 rpms when suddenly the rpms jumped from about 9000 to 12000. Any ideas of what is going on?

Clutch slip
Adjust clutch cable first.it is possibly to tight.

Mossy hit that one square on the head...

do the clutch adjustments (at the front sprocket cover first....handlebar second) and see if it gets better.

If not, you are likely due for clutch plates/springs.

I adjusted already just before the clutch lever, but I didn't think about adjusting it just in front of the sprocket cover so thanks. I will look at it today.

I dont read too often about people actually blowing their clutch and needing to replace it entirely, but if you end up having too, you can get some barnett clutch kits off ebay for around $100.

Clutches do fry; they're considered a consumeable part, like a chain. I remember having to pull in from a heat race a while back; even a cracked throttle pegged the tach - without actually moving any faster... banghead :yuck:

Don't ride until you get it sorted out. The inability to accellerate (or even maintain speed, once it gets bad enough) is a direct and severe health hazard in traffic. Also, if all that's needed is an adjustment, repeatedly zinging the clutch will fry the plates. If the fibres are done but the steels are still good (right NOW), flailing the clutch will ruin the steels. Extra $$, however you look at it. canofworms

I adjusted the clutch as mossy and real razor said. It seems to have resolved the problem. I will continue to keep an eye on it. Thanks everyone for the advice!

Please be warned that barnett clutch kits work very well but can cut into the primary basket.possibly not as bad on 600 as the 1000.
If you are hard rider not recommended.im pushing 147hp rear wheel on new yamaha clutch fibres and steels with barnett springs.
I change up clutchless shifting and get zero slip.
Yamaha steels have the best quality finish of any manufacturer.

Does Yamaha sell a clutch kit or do you just have to buy the individual pieces? Also, Does anyone know if the EBC clutch kits will cut into the primary basket as well?
