Hi all...starter solenoid?

Hey everybody I'm new to the forum. I bought a REALLY cheap 96 fzr from a dude who was pretty clueless. My only problem is that it won't start. When I try to start it the starter solenoid makes a buzzing sound. There is no power getting to the starter at all. Do you think that this part is bad? Also, the dude I bought the bike from tried to start it after sitting for a year off of his car bettery. I hear this can fry electronics on a motorcycle. I hope that it was just the solenoid that went bad. The starter and pistons also turn over when I push the bike in gear. Any ideas? Thank you!

does the fuel pump make any noise when you turn the bike on?
if the fuel pump doesnt click...then your not getting any fuel
if it doesnt click, then you might have a bad fuel pump or relay.

The first couple of times I stried I could hear the fuel pump working. I took the fuel line to the carb off and it was wet. After a while all I could here is the solenoid. Does the fuel pump shut off or something if the carbs are primed? Why would the solenoid be buzzing like that?

Oh and another problem I'm having is that the brake light won't come on for the front brakes lever. The running lights work and the brake light will get brighter when I step on the rear brake. Where is the switch for the front brake light? What might be the problem? Sorry for the stupid questions i'm just not too good with electronics. Thanks

Okay, first things first.
CLEAN the contacts...battery pos. and neg.....and the big wires at the solenoid (this means take the nut off and wire brush the hoop and the post til they're bright and shiny).
CHARGE the battery fully with a low amperage charger (2amp or less-this will take overnight charging-top off the water in the cells first-use distilled water). If the battery wont read 13 or so Volts DC after this-throw it away and get a new one.
Also, open the switch housing where the start button is located....is it all corroded and fuzzy looking? Clean that up. The 'start' button is notorious for corroding and NOT shutting off.....this is most likely why your solenoid buzzes....
The rear brake switch is right underneath the pivot for the front brake lever....two wires...they fall off a lot. Touch them together while the ignition is keyed 'on'. the brake light should light. If so, reconnect them...doesn't matter which is which.
