Is there any where to check to make sure your CDI and Engine match? or is just checking that the first part of the SN enough?

You can't do it via serial number of the engine, or frame number (as far as I know).

You CAN check what the part number is supposed to be for your year/model at Yamaha's online microfiche:

Do you have a specific question? As far as I know, ALL FZR600s use the same ignitor(except the california model-whose ignitor drives the EXUP servo as well)

3HH is an FZR600.

That doesn't tell you if it is a Cal spec model or not, tho-they're 3HH engines too.

The Cal bikes had different cam timing, and different ign. timing curves built into their ignitor. It will run, but not as well as it should if you have a Cal motor and a non-Cal ignitor...or vice-versa

Humm is there an easy way to tell the difference between the cal model when you look at it ( I have not seen pictures of the engine yet I'm waiting on that)

The Cal spec unit will have either capped off tubes (about 1/4" diameter) right next to each exhaust port, or will have an allen screw or bolt threaded into the head right next to each exhaust port that will appear to not be holding anything in place(bolts will be what someone did to block off the tubes if the emissions stuff has been removed).

Or, it may have all the emissions junk stuck on the front of the engine (this stuff attaches to the above tubes)..this will be hoses and a flattish cast aluminum piece which houses a reed valve setup for exhaust gas recirc).

Pop a picture of the motor up in this thread when you get it..and I am sure others will chime in.
