FZRSupport: the FZROnline Archive

So I'm pretty sure my vr is going bad and I'm looking to get a new one. I have the old on on my 90 fzr and my battery is getting super hot and overflowing. I was wondering real quick though, if my bike takes like 2 min of straight cranking in the morning to start, could the vr cause that? Sounds more like carb tuning issues to me but from all the weird things I hear the vr's can cause I wouldn't be suprised. Now onto the real question. I found several different options for vr's on ebay and I'm wondering what will work and save me money (just had a baby and I'm broke). There apears to be an aftermarket vr made for an 89-94 fzr 600. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-YAMA ... ccessories These any good?

That does not look to have the correct connection.

Can someone update the WIKI as to what year and model VRs work with this MOD? Should be any year YZF and 95+ FZR600. Not sure what year R6s work though.

If they are sending you the other plug side(side to replace your existing plug from the harness) with it, it should work fine. If not find a different one....

Even if it doesn't have the same connection it should be pretty easy to wire in. I'm debating on this used one, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... &viewitem= and the one previously mentioned. Both are the same price with shipping.

As far as the connector goes on the original item (the one where the picture showed a round plug), the caption under that picture was: "Product image shown is manufactures stock photo Image accurately represents product but will differ based on Specific Application!" In other words, that ain't what it looks like.

That said, if this IS an aftermarket version of the original 4-pin design, you'd probably be better off with the YZF VR Rage just posted, and mod your harness.

Which is a Kawasaki power equipment regulator. It is a continous duty 20amp, 14.2 volt unit for three phase alternator.

Damnit, I made a bid on another one that is the same thing but was 10 or 12 bucks more. Oh well. I wish I was a bit more patient but i wanted it to get shipped today so it'll hopefully be here on Mon.

So does anybody have an answer to my other question? Could the VR be causing my bike to take so long to start when its cold? Choking doesn't really help much. My brand new battery is getting toasted already cause it takes about 45 seconds straight of using the starter motor to get it to a point where it will barely idle, then another 1.5 min of the barely idle to get my bike started.

Sounds more like you need to sync the carbs. My bike took forever to start before I synced them. Then it was about 2 seconds.

Jusy had them synced. I think I need some different jetts.
