Well I just got home from work and the bike was running like crap all the way home all of a sudden, spitting/sputtering, sounded like a few backfires. Ran fine on Friday and on the way to work this afternoon. Seemed like throught the whole RPM range not just at low RPM. Like it had no balls. Anyone have any ideas

It only sat for like 4 hours this afternoon then ran like shit all of a sudden.

Hey man,
It may be a long shot, but check to make sure you getting good spark on all four cyclinders. I had a similar thing happen where all of a sudden out of nowhere, the bike started acting like garbage. I had similar symptoms (sputtering, sounds like it's out of gas, popping out the exhaust, etc). Turned out that the #2 spark plug took a dump. Quick check: Start the bike and let her run for a minute or so then do the ol' touch the header pipe with the bare finger trick. If you're able to hold your finger to one (or more) of them you know something's amiss on that cylinder. In my case - bad spark plug.

DAMMIT Shred! You beat me to it!

Thanks guys, I will have to check the plugs and see if that is the issue. I will go let it run for a few minutes and see how many times I can burn my fingers

, LOL. Will report back soon.

LOL! I know it sounds crazy! All it really takes is a light tap with your finger tip though. If you feel like you're going to get burned - you probably will. That's good. Move on to the next cylinder!

If one of the plugs IS bad, you will more or less be able to hold your finger to the header pipe without getting burned. The heat difference is pretty big so you should know right away!

Well just got done with the little burn the shit outof your fingers test and I only sizzled 3 fingers. Damn pipes get F@$#in HOT

after only a couple minutes LOL cyl#3 I could pretty much hold for like 15 seconds. Looks like a set of plugs in the VERY near future. Anyone know what the plug #is for the FZR600. Thanks again.

NGK CR9E or CR8E is recommended.
Glad you got it narrowed down right away!

I'm glad too, was already getting tired of burning my fingers, LOL. Whats the difference between the 2 plugs. I am running a V&H SS2R Slip-On and a K&N Drop in filter if that makes a difference. Thanks

Autolite 4303 will work as well. Cheaper too. Just gap them to proper specs.

One of the two just runs slightly hotter than the other. I don't remember which off hand though. The Clymer even notes that either can be used. A quick search should give you the answer (I'll try to look in a second here also). Also, as Sweekster pointed out, there are other alternatives as well.
About the finger burning - I had trouble using the little security swiper thing on laptop for a few days after doing this fun little test so I feel (felt) your pain!
Hopefully, this will solve your woes though!

*EDIT* It looks like the CR8s run "hotter" (got this from Heath's site). Here is a link that explains the difference:

Hopefully it will, I have always liked the NGK plugs so I will probably just stay with them. I will see if I can find a set tomorrow.

the CR9E & CR8E are about $5/ea...
the autolite 4303 is about $1.50/ea.
iv never used the 4303 because no one ever has them.
i believe the CR8E burns hotter and you use it if your running higher octain...dont qoute me because thats just a guess

Are they avaliable at like AutoZone or Advanced or do I need to call the dealership? Water bottle sounds like a less painful idea,

I ran the Cr8e's in my old 600 as it ran a little rich and would foul the Cr9es. The 4303 is the equivalent to them (the Cr8e). I currently run Champion plugs in my 1k and have no issues. But in the end go with what you feel comfy with.
