So started my bike up to show a friend and when I put my hand by the exhaust it felt to be wet, so I lookd at my hand it it was "speckeled with black liquid spots. I got scared and shut it off and stuck my finger in the exhaust and felt around the inside edge and it was soaked. It didnt smell like gas, or anything except exhaust (carbony).... Anybody have any ideas of whats happening. Everything on this bike is going wrong, I hope its nothing serious :puke:

have u left it outside in the rain? could condensation buildup a little bit inside the can or header somehwere. I would go ride it for a couple 2-3 hrs and by then any collected or condensation water should easily have evaporated away so cup your hand over it and if u still get water then maybe i would worry

You have a plug that is not firing. Because t is not firing, fuel is being pushed through into the exhaust. Check your coils for correct resistance, especially the plug caps. Mine was just doing this. I changed one plug cap and it fixed the problem. An alternative is that you have a coil going to the wrong place.

That sounds like the same thing you had going on for sure.

He says it doesn't smell like fuel, but has the consistency of water - which is exactly what it is. What's happening is water vapour from the exhaust gasses from the previous ride have condensed inside the pipe - this is why short-hop rides rot the bejeezus out of pipes. Gasoline is a blend of hydrocarbons, and burning that blend with oxygen leads to water and carbon dioxide - CxHy + O2 -> CO2 + H2O (plus various unburns and pollutants, like NOx, SOx, CO, etc)

Take a bike out, and ride it hard, and the pipe is hot enough on shut-down to keep the water as vapour until most of it has wafted out. Take it for a short hop, or work on it in the driveway / garage, and it doesn't get hot enough, and the water condenses inside - this is what is spitting out. Ever notice water dribbling from the tailpipe of an idling cage in traffic?

Gee, I just went through this on my bike. It was fuel. Didn't smell like fuel because of all the carbon that was in it. It looked like someone dumped water down my header and let it leak out all on my garage floor. For me, it was exiting out where the mid pipe connects to the header. Bike also sounded like it was down one cylinder.

WNY ROGO - how much liquid is coming from the pipe? If it is enough to create a puddle on the floor then it is not water vapor as these things don't create that kind of quantity.

dude, does it only do it when the bike is cold? If so mine does the same thing. I also think my bike is running rich because the tail pipe looks pretty black. Runs like champ though :yutugh2:

All bikes that run petrol with no lead in it will be black.if you add that to moiture and condensation in the pipe when you start it then you end up with black water. My race bike runs black on petrol and white/grey on avation fuel.Quite normal.Bikes stored outside or run short distances will spi condensation until they get quite hot.the moisture gets pushed up to the muffler packing and can take good 10min ride to fully dry up.
Hope that helps you guys

wyn,

pull your entire exhaust system off, you should be able to see if you have oil around one of your exhaust ports. i would change all plugs to be sure and check for spark on every cylinder. use a new plug since an old one can be blown and still show spark.

ive heard of bikes with junk in the exhaust system because they have a antifreeze leak which puts coolant into the motor the bike fires and causes a gunky slippy waterish oil crap residue. most times to fix that a new head gasket is needed. This happens alot of older suzuki racer quads and 2 strokes but this might be another area to look for.

if not...we gotta find you a new bike cuz every this is starting to get off the hook. or just ask a good dealer to check it out, giving you some adivice what to look for shouldnt cost you a thing.

until then, hope you find out why leaky wants to leak. squid
