I think I've mooted the subjet before, but I've a suggestion to go with it.

I'm now looking at a new rear shock for my 6' as part of the revamp, and I'm thinking an R6 or Fazer 600 shock ought to go with little or no work.

What shocks fit stright on, what ones go with a little fiddling, and what ones will go but require more in-depth work, and how?

And once that's been answered, how about making it a sticky so it's easily accessible for everyone?

i have a fz1 shock that is a bolt on...just need two washers and it goes right in

That's good to know, though strangely it seems R6 shocks can be had for less than FZ6 ones. I guess it's all the kiddies that can't ride, buy a moderately quick bike then chuck 'em up the road, keeping the used spares market well stocked.

US Model 2001-2005 FZ1 (Fazer 1000) shock drops right in. Been finishing the write-up on how to adjust it. Only "gotcha's" are that you have to use a few washers to space out the top (a little narrower, but same size bounting bolt), the reservoir has to go toward the front of the bike (a little harder to adjust), and the stock spring rate is inadequate. A new spring (or using the stock FZR600 spring) is almost a necessity, and if you set it up pretty well before you put it in, adjusting is isn't too bad. Best part is you don't need to get new dogbones or have any machine work done.

The 06 GSXR 600/750 Shock (has a horizontal reservior and a yellow spring). Same goes for the 06 R6 shock (horizontal res and a red spring). Those two seem to be the best fit from what I can tell. But you may still have to swap spring because those shocks are coming from bikes that are much lighter than the 600.

Finch, so the FZ1000 shock fits, but the springs feeble? Glad you warned me, cos I'm a hefty old unit and was thinking the thousand shock might have a beefier spring, what with it being from a heavier bike and all.

That's good news about Gixxer shocks, opens another avenue for me.

The weakness of the shock doesn't have so much to do with the wieght as it does that the FZ1 is a "sport touring" bike. It probably also has different suspension geometry, as the spring I got from Racetech that's rated for my weight on a FZ1 still doesn't feel incredibly stiff on the FZR, even with 8 of 11 clicks of preload.

I have one of these GSXR 600 shocks on my bike rides ok but not had a passenger on the back yet. Need to get the C spanner for the spring load nuts anyone have one knocking around or know where to buy.????????

I have a r6 shock with the fzr spring and besides a bit of grinding on the end of the shock, and some bushings it was a direct bolt on.

I have done the '06-'07 R6 shock swap and I love it! Mine has a 85n/mm Ohlins shock (which is one rate lighter than the stock R6). @ 170lbs I am fairly light and I was able to get my loaded sag to 35mm but I am right up near the top of the preload range...if I did it again I would go with the stock rate spring (stock-for the R6 is 95n/mm accdng to Ohlins) so I could be near the bottom of the preload settings. I am thinking that the stock R6 spring would be fine for a rider on an FZR up to 200-210lbs or so.

Mines got white power rework kit in the original showa shock.
Coversion included remote reserviour and internals plus adjusters and spring.
This work was done prior to me getting the bike and i wouldnt change a thing until i can afford ohlins.
Maybe there is conversion for your 600 also.

That is a neat trick as it must be a tad cheaper tha buying an Ohlins as such.

hi George .the conversion was done before i purchaced bike.Since the previous rider was almost my weight i did no more resurch as it worked great.
The only info was that the bike was freighted to Hamilton and set up then returned to Wellington converted front and rear.
The guy that did the work I think is Robert Taylor one of NZ shock specialist.
i understand that both front and rear was done for $1500 NZD or 800usd which is a fraction of the ohlins race set ups which can go to 6000nz if you take three year track set up option.
the static sag was 18mm when i got it and i have set it at 26mm.
The previous owner must have been 10kg heavier than me.
i will try get more info if i can.
