Does anyone know of a company, machine shop, or person that can make a crash cage for my FZR600? Im not completely stunting it, but I find myself frequently riding wheelies and doing tank tricks when im out at "the spot" with my buddies and their stunting. I ride it daily so i dont give it too much hell but anything can happen so id like to get a crash cage to at least protect my engine(I have the parts to rebuild the rest of the bike if i mess it up).. Any help would be awesome..

Spyder was making them and I believe he got side tracked helping China Racer with some stuff...not sure of the current status though.

Got any pics of what your looking for? Ie; Some examples? I've got a tube bender and mig welder i can probably get one mocked up on my fizzer. Altho, I've seen some pics of other cages, i would prolly use like 3/4" Solid bar for the "engine cage" loop (basicly a U loop off the frame sliders). Hollow tube might be too weak, and i'd need a new die for my bender its currently at 1 3/4" which is far too big.

Lets get some pics posted of various stunt cages and 12 o'clock bars.

Here is Spyder's Crash Cage he made, simple and too the point.. heres a few more just for ideas.... 12 bars are just an expensive way of screwin your subframe, ill replace a tail light and rear plastics first....

Great pics. So it appears on the FZR you will need the skins off in order to use them. Which makes perfect sense.

Looks like 1" tube he's using there with just a slight bend to keep things close to the engine/frame. If you notice in pic #2, the left bend looks a lil bit kinked. Probably a "homebrew" bend with either heat or just a pipe style bender.

I do have a 1.25" die i just think that tube is a bit to big. Although after re-inspecting his pics, 1.25" may not be that bad. The other issue is the mounting to the frame. I believe if i just take a piece of tube and weld a washer to the back side, it will allow you to slip a bolt in there and be solid.

I'll need to take my skins off todo my transmission replacement here in a few weeks. I'll see if i can prototype you something and let you know how that goes. I would also like to pickup a powder coat gun to finish them off if i were to be selling these.

Hey man If you can make one up, ill trade u a good tranny for it.. ALOT of people would want them, i have 2 FZR 600s and im building another so, thats 3 here. 1-1.25 should be good, Im going to work something up, ill see what i cant do and put it back on here where we can get some "Contructive" Criticism on this and hopefully work up something that will be fairly cheap and not bad looking, It would also be a plus if we could get something to allow the plastics to stay..

I have a good tranny, drums, and the forks. I just need to get it in. Theres a good article that shows how to change it by not taking engine out or splitting cases. I just haven't gotten to it. Working on 3 other buddy's bikes and just got a 3 wheeler revived. So i know how it goes with alot of projects.

My Fizzer is still mostly stock. Hoping to hop into larger mods soon. But im a previous jeep guy so i have alot of fabrication tools and knowledge. Hoping todo a swingarm swap on her soon in order to run larger tire. I go thru tires kind of fast (hmm i wonder why?)

I'll get started on one of these soon. Might have a version 1 and 2 (v2 allowing fiarings to stay, but im not sure how that will work yet without some fender modification), etc. I also better get an old oven so my wife dont yell at me when im baking these cages in the oven after powder coating! hah!

If your gonna mod the fizz, dont do too many performance parts, next thing you know youll be pulling performance parts back off to make ur bike streetable again... The swingarm swap is a nice mod, but as others on this forum have said before, " if you run too big of a rear tire, it will steer like a lump of on wheels"..

Let us know the progress, and if possible post up some pics so everyone can get an idea of how this is done..

Alright I've been wanting to make a cage for a long time and have always been too busy. Then Spyder was going to make them so I didn't bother. Some of my projects are finishing up and I of course have to replace them with more so I'm going to start designing a cage. I already have my mount points designed and bar lengths. I just need to mock up my pvc template and make sure it's all good. Then I will make a prototype and see how much my powder coater will charge me for them since I need to get a few other things coated as well. I should have my template done in the next few days. I'll post it up and see if anyone likes the design and wants to buy one.

Let me know on the template. I havent got the skins off to see what kind of mount points i have yet. It looks like spyder used a flat bar on his lower front engine brace mount in order to provide more strength perhaps?

Maybe i'll look into the external cage idea. I really would like to keep my skins on to look cool, while being protected.

I'd like to see the article on how to do this. Reason is that I don't think it is possible to swap the entire tranny without splitting the cases. I've got one on my garage floor right now that is split apart and still don't think it is possible. But like I've said before, I don't mind being proven wrong.

I believe i really just meant not removing the engine from my frame. The clymer i have made it seem like alot more work then it really is.

See if that helps you any. The trick is to setting the bike on its side gently to work on it like he is, with the engine on its side.
