I know its been awhile but I got the old 600 out the shed and I only have 1st gear...feels like something is bound up in the trans inside....I removed the clutches and shell....The gear with the pegs on it which goes into the inner trans is hard to move......Maybe something is rusted up? It shifted fine when I parked it......Thanks guys...Brad

Did you have oil in it when you put it away? Did you try rolling it to shift gears?
As for the second question about a breakdown of the circle gear, I have no idea what you're talking about.

I would let it warm all the way up and see if rocking it back and forth will free it up

It had correct oil in it at the time I parked it and it still does have oil in it...no leak... I can shift into 1st and with it hot It wont shift into 2nd or any upper gear...only neutral and 1st.. Ive removed the clutch cover and if you look at the shift shaft it has 2 hooks on it...the gear it hooks and turns is what wont turn freely...the microfish pic dont show the gear with teeth or I cant find it.......I feel its a shift fork thats maybe rusty or binded up inside the trans....maybe it will work freely...

Are you talking about the shift shaft? The end of it looks like a star with one of the tips cut off. If so, the shift forks ride in groves on the shift shaft so it will change gears.
I would bet that you have a bent shift fork. If I remember correctly, you like to go to the drag strip with the bike. This could defiantly be a problem. Best way to look at this is to remove the oil pan. That way you don't have to disassemble the whole engine.

i agree. take off the fairings and find a good thick blanket or something to lay the bike on its side, that way you don't have to remove the engine. taking the oil pan off will show a lot of stuff. its a royal pain in the ass to get at everything in there with the engine in the bike or out, so give it a try while its in the bike first. i'm surprised the transmission is that seized already. i coulda swore you were just active here like two months ago.
i'd definitely let it warm up and try rocking it back and forth. make sure to check your clutch cable and the clutch rod that goes through the engine (can't remember what its called right now). sounds like you've covered most of the basics before ripping into the engine though
rip into that sucker now before it really starts to get hot. that was the main reason my bike took 6 months to get fixed. 120 degrees in a garage is not conducive to a productive work environment
