its better to do a 660 conversion which your just using the yzf600 heads and pistons and stuff and it gives you more HP than just a yzf600 motor...

Shred, not everyone is interested in doing this. And it is not an easy thing to do. You also need to be fairly mechanically inclined to do this as it does get technical. Basically, this is more than a weekend build for the typical do it yourselfer. But a YZF600 engine can go into the FZR frame in about 2-3 hours.

The YZF engine is a great option as an upgrade. I would suggest looking for a set of 95-96 carbs to do this as the 97+ ram air system is a little bit of a pain in the ass to deal with.

I can honestly say, the 600 YZF will fit the FZR 400/600 frame. I have seen it. A little more HP to boot to.

ive rebuilt engines before and have every tool under the sun just a jack of all trades haha the only real question is do the rod bearings fit the fzr crank or do you have to change it with the yzf. im probally gonna just change the entire engine but im just interested and how much extra hp would you get

The stock FZR600 is rated at 90hp - A stock YZF600 is rated at 100hp. These numbers are listed as crank hp - subtract 10hp for wheel hp. The 660's I've seen have been dyno'd at about 107hp at the wheel. So it is a fairly good increase in power.

The normal way to do the 660 is to bolt on the YZF stuff to a FZR bottom end. Basically everything from the conrods up needs to be YZF.

I have have a thundercat engine in my 1990 fzr6 fits in no problem and wired the cdi box for that engine in to the bikes wiring loom.

I didn't need to change the carbs but for the fzr carb rubbers to fit i had to turn them around and no carbs are slightly different angle that the air box wont fit so i suppose its some k & n filters
