Carb....Tuning

SOOOOOOOOOO I was visiting the Archives and came across an article about "cheap" jetting. I bought some 110 jets and got some shims for my needle. My question, why would you shim the needle. On cars we often change jets. Why is needle modification important. And is it that important if my only mods are k and n pods. Can i get away with jets and mixture screw adjustments.

As always any comments or suggestions welcome.

Thanks DEMO.................

The needle position is for Mid-range power.

The needle changing it's because the altering of the angles among the needles. If the angle of a needle it's stiffer, this will get sooner (according to the throtlle opening) more fuel into the cylinders. If this angle it's smoother, then less fuel will flow into the cylinders in the same throtlle position. If you really want to get good performance, you have to change the needles too.
In your case, (that you just need to shim the needle) if you raise the needle position, you get more fuel in the cylinders. If you low the needle position the oposite will hapen. To tell you the trouth, i've done this in many bikes, and all i got, was nothing more than over-consumption. The carbs however were not jetted. Just needle shimmed.

WOW!!!!!!!!

I just want to be honest. I have never messed with a motorcycle carb before. I bought some twin pod filters from TK (THANKS TK). I bought some 110 main jets from my local Yamaha dealer. I bought some shim stock from OREILLY AUTO PARTS. Installed and set mixture screws at three turns out.

The DIFFERENCE is absolutely amazing. It runs so smooth from 1000 to 4000. Pulls super hard at wot.

I just thought i would post this because I am happy. Because I want to thank the folks here for parts and info. And to tell the other noobs that if you listen to the people who know, try it yourself, and have a little patience that anything is possible.
