HELP! No spark in the middle cylinders

Post by 94fzr600convert »

As title states, tore the bike apart trying to figure out why she won't fire. The kid who had the bike before me said the middle two cylinders always ran cold (rich?). He gave me a spare set of coils and said he replaced them already for that problem. If the coils were replaced, which I'm not even sure they really were, what else could it be?? How do I check if it is one of the coils? Besides kicking the shit out of a liar-salesman bonkonhead what should I do to RRBike

Much appreciated gentlemen.

I had a similiar problem but i think it was cylinders 1 and 4. I replaced the coils with a Ford coilpack, but I had extremely weak spark. The problem with the weak spark was that I didn't have every plug wire connected to a spark plug. Once I connected a spark plug to each plug wire and grounded all 4 plugs to the block, i got great spark on all 4 cylinders.

How are the plugs on 2 and 3? Maybe switch them with 1 and 4 to see if they may be the problem. Also take the flywheel cover off and clean the stator, pick-up, and flywheel. If you have the haynes manual and a multimeter, you can do a test on the pickup coil(I can post the test if you need it). Also make sure the plug wires are tight. I had a problem with the boots screwing off from the actual wire before. Oh and heres a link to checking your coils via ohmeter http://www.fzrarchives.com/fzr600/work_ ... coils.html

ok so I checked the coils by switching the incoming plugs and by cross-referencing them with the spare coils I had sitting in the garage. It is NOT the coils. But the plugs look identical. They're not worn at all. So it's obviously coming from before the coils. Sound like a stator? Any info is much appreciated!

Also, my day got a little better as I just unloaded my winter beater truck for $800! Play money for the fizzer now! :shocker

FastFZR had the same problem on the archives. I sold him a "new" CDI/Igniter and everything was cherry after that. His VR went out and fried the CDI, it was definitely noticeable by the smell.

fuel is getting to all banks...so the general consensus is a fried cdi/ignitor? The bike came with an R6 VR already installed. Well here's a newb question since I'm not very familiar with the FZR's electrical setup: I've a few other electrical problems (right front turn signal staying on non-stop and heating up so badly it scores the fiberglass on the Airtech kit) - could that be from a fried cdi as well? I would assume not, but anything is possible at this point. IDK thanks for all this help guys! Much appreciated.

On the + side, I secured a deal with a friend's dad to help me with the fiberglass while it's all off. We're going to patch and respray the whole thing. He's excited to experiment so I think I'm going to end up with a nice ride :bunny

Now I just have to get it started. No big deal. :duh:

Sounds like the signal is wired incorrectly at the signal or some where in the harness... CDI wouldn't do that ...
