Just what it says. Lets get something down here that I can add to the WIKI for everyone. If anyone has modded their lighting or whatever......post up some pics, prices, easy to hard scale. This is something I want to do and I know CAD600 could start off for us.

Angel Eyes
Xenon H4 Headlights
Xenon H7 Headlights

If this helps, I want to keep my fairing and just replace bulbs or what do I need to do? IDK

Well, you've seen the ones I put in mine. Here is a link to the website I got them from - http://www.xtralights.com/index.asp?Pag ... stom&ID=72 - They were a little on the expensive side, but I was looking for specific features. I have mine wired into the stock light switch. They come on when I turn the high beams on. The install was fairly easy once I figured out some things. These lights will drain a battery fairly quickly which means you're better off wiring them into a switch so they are not on when you try cranking the bike.

I've heard nothing but GOOD things about the ones you posted from eBay. I think spyder has them on his. Install is suppose to be simple and performance is suppose to be good.

I feel compelled to play devils advocate here. There are a few concerns with upgrading to HID lights. First is that in probably every state, it is illegal. If your vehicle did not come with them from the factory, they do not want you to swap to them. You'll notice that every website that sells these will also state that they are for off road use only. Second issues has to do with the halogen beam splitter. Halogen lights use a beam splitter to disperse the light into a specific pattern. HID lights do not as they are projector beams and aim the light into a specific place. There is a lot of controversy about using HID lights in halogen light fixture because of the beam splitter not dispersing the light incorrectly and therefore blinding oncoming vehicles. Remember, if you are going to do this swap, do the research and make up your own mind about doing it since it's your ass on the line.

That said, I did do the swap and love the way it turned out. I road with it once at night and the amount of light just one of these puts out was 4 times the stock set up.

I would want them to switch when I hit the high beams not on all the time. Mainly at night when I really need them.

I just went with the 60w/55w H4 Sylvania bulbs you can get at any Autozone. At least I think that's the brand they were. I left all the wiring stock and just plugged them in. No problems with overheating or anything and approximately double the lighting power. Not all that cheap at $20/bulb but they don't need any mods to work. And boy do they work.

On some of the backroads to my house I was overriding the light at 45mph with the stock bulbs. Now I can safely go 60mph at night and a little more with the brights. my2cents

Thanks Finch. I may try that just to get by instead of adding those converters and crap.

Nice price. Besides having bulbs that are only about 6-8 months old, the big thing keeping me from going HID are the ballasts. I used to replace ballasts all the time when I did fluorescent light repair and A/C work, and so I know they're mostly reliable, but one time I was headed to a poker game at a friends house and I pulled into the CVS Pharmacy on the corner to get some cold drinks to take to the game, and there was a guy on his Gixxer who was frantically trying to re-wire his ballasts to put out any kind of light so he could make it the rest of the way home. This was at 7pm, and at 1am when I was headed home, the bike was still there.

Not to tell you not to do it, just make sure to do it properly, and with anything that adds another part to the bike, that's one more part that could possibly malfunction.

When doing important stuff like that I always solder and heat shrink wrap the wires individually instead of crimp connectors, but I'm OCD like that. my2cents

Hey Finch, let me ask you this.....How long are your bulbs lasting? Do you have to buy new ones ever year?

I wouldn't really know. At the beginning of next month it'll make one full year that I've owned the FZR. I replaced the bulbs maybe 6-8 months ago, and they haven't gone out yet. If I remember right they're the Sylvania Silverstar bright white 60w/55w bulbs. I don't ride everyday, but alot of my riding is at night (too much to do during the day), and they haven't failed me yet.

Ill give these a shot 1st before I spend the $65 and see how they are. If need be, I can always get the kit. Thanks Finch!

No problem. Glad I could help.

You know if you wanted to hold off a little bit, you could always see how mine look when we get together for the ATL AMA race in a month or so. Then you wouldn't have to spend any money before you made your decision.

Weather is warming up and I need some better lighting when riding at night so I will pick up the ones you mentioned this weekend.
