I finally took my bike for a nice long decent ride on Saturday after the bike had been sitting in the garage for the past month. As I was going round one of the corners the was fu*king gravel on the road and the whole bike just slipped out from under me and right smack into a tree. My front fairing is smashed, the fairing stay is bent to shit. all left side original plastics are shit as well...... just one of them days......

after looking at the bike, i was considering going streetfighter. I wanna know how do you mount the handle bars on the triples. Do you drill holes in the triple to mount them or do you change the triple. I was thinking of using some sort of motorcross handle or something like that. If anyone here who has done it can point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.

And another is to buy just the risers and bolt them on. I think Nate did that or maybe Spyder...

The cheapest way is to drill the top triple clamp and then you can mount what ever risers and handle bars you want. I've seen a few people do this with no issues. If you don't want to do that then get them from another bike. The Yamaha XJ 600s Diversion (See Below-Known as the Seca II here in the US) used a very similar front end to the FZR and the top clamp was already set up for risers and handle bars. You find a top clamp from one of those and it should be a bolt on swap.

Good call on the Seca! I'd be willing to bet they used the same forks for many years.

The forks weren't exactly the same. They had different front fenders and the Seca only had 1 front brake- which I would think that little short coming can be remedied by possible swapping the fork lowers with FZR ones. But both had 38mm forks and use the same stem.

I did it this way, but I made my risers. I can't afford to buy things.

I seem to remember that I did a double caliper conversion on our Seca drag bike just drilled the wheel on the casting points that were there but not used & adding a disc.
As I said a LONG time ago so I could be wrong and our Model (west indies ) could have been from anywhere else in the world we had all sorts arrive including what was supposed to be Japanese only with the idiot speeding light

Seca II top clamp is a direct bolt-on.

I doubt it unless you made the bars real long .Your old clip ons were above the yoke at the very top of your fork legs if you see what I mean.

I just bought a pro taper universal set of risers and a fat bar for $100....

the guy is on ebay but I called him directly and ordered them...

1.125" bars, will the original switches & throttle action work on that size I was always under the impression that Yamaha (& most jap bikes) were smaller in diameter than that.

I would go and check mine but am still laid up in bed !

7/8" is my understanding for just about every bike on the planet (except High Density - I mean, Hardly Ableson).

I believe the fat bars taper to 7/8 for the controls. As long as your riser fits the thicker bar, you should be fine.
