I have finished rebuilding my '91 fzr600 and fired it up last nite, it started getting warm on the choke and then the revs raised which has always meant it was time to switch the choke off. I did this as normal and proceeded to give it a few revs. When i did this, it stuttered, was slow to rev and fired 6"-8" flames out the exhaust. The fumes were instantly choking/eye watering. The revs then slowed down and it cut out, failing to restart.
I think its running too rich because of the flames/fumes, plus i know it was running rich before i stripped it down.
Anyone got any ideas??? :headscratch:

Try changing your spark plugs.

Sounds like it ran rich and fouled the plugs. Maybe try adjusting the mixture screws as well as new plugs.

no i didnt strip the carbs, just left them on the garage floor for 5 months. I cleaned them with brake cleaner before refitting them and couldn't see any shit on them, its the only thing i can think off.

Hi,
well I would say that you need to strip them and thouroughly clean each of the jets and make sure the floats are working as advertised .

Hi guys, thanks for all your info, i found the problem earlier today. I thought i'd try and start it again to see if it was a problem when it warmed up or from cold aswell and noticed the fuel pump didn't activate. I removed the tank and found that I hadn't plugged the fuel pump connector in! :swear banghead
How embarressing?!!!
Again thanks for all your advise.
p.s. I will upload some pics asap
