wont idle need help !

Post by cypher333 »

the bike wont idle, so heres what its doing. It will start with the choke on and warm up choked but once the choke is let go it will slowly die. With the choke on I can rev it, but it takes a while for it to rev after i turn the throttle. then when i let go of the throttle it will very slowly drop back down to an idle WITH the choke on. it will not start at all warm without the choke...whats the problem ? fuel mixture too lean ? whats wierd is that it has a lag when i throttle it and slowly drops RPM after throttle close. screwy

Well could be a few things. It does sound like you're running lean. First I would make sure that you don't have any vacuum leaks. Check the rubber boots that the carbs sit on for cracks. Make sure they're on tight if recently took the carbs off because it can be hard to get them to seat back. Also try richening up your idle mixture screws. You can also try raising your idle once your bike is warmed up.

If you're having trouble getting the carbs back into the boots, you can make them more pliable by dipping them in hot water or taking a heat gun or hairdryer to warm them up.

Pull the tank and see if all your cables are good to go and tight. I had this problem once and the choke and throttle at the carbs were loose. Start there and check the rest like mega listed.

did you try messing with the idle mixture screws?

Also I recommend you do a carb sync if you haven't done one yet.
