3TJ Swingarm Swap + GSXR 600 rear shock mod
Hi,
well at long last I have had enough "peace & quiet" ie I threw a strop and got my web site updated :-
http://www.saltmine.org.uk/fzr/3tj-mod.html
it is a how to put the 3tj (FZR400 ) swing arm in a 3HE (FZR600 ) frame for 17" or 18" wheels and using a 600 GSXR shock as a replacement shock with as much 3HE stuff as possible
Enjoy

Re: 3TJ Swingarm Swap + GSXR 600 rear shock mod
is the 400 3tj swingarm shorter than the 600 swingarm???
btw, very nice write up!
do you have any pics of the whole bike with the 400 swingarm on?
id like to see it!
you mentioned in you write up that your rear wheel was a 4.5 18"...I thought the fzr only had 3.5 in 89 and a 4.0 for all the other years.
how did you get a 4.5?

18" * 4.0 is the original rear wheel the 17" is 4.5, I would get the finished bike pics and the " new" heel guards etc PLUS measure the swing arm (my notes are a couple of miles away at the workshop) but we had snow last night and I hate F***ing snow.
Sorry will do when the white shite has gone.
Glad you liked the write up the pics I took were (loads) turned out crap as I managed to get a grease covered lens DOH

Very cool Geo. Nice write up as well. This mod is a lot simpler than I thought it would be. I'm interested to know how she rides once the weather clears up for you.
Yes, that is a Single Sided Swingarm FZR600 that I built.

It seems a lot stiffer (may be my pre-load is off as my c tool went for a walk at the workshop ) but she is definitely a lot more "planted" now although the ride was about a mile or so home through some twisty back streets and remember i have a new tyre on which has not been heat cycled yet to rid it of carcass oil so pushing hard was not even thought about.
While I am on let me ask a question any one have any gsxr 600 shock tech figures for original set up to cut my testing time down please. I know Darrin had for the hayabusa shock (have one up for grabs if any one is interested ? PM me.)
Re: 3TJ Swingarm Swap + GSXR 600 rear shock mod
What year shock is it? Remember, Darin now has a Gixxer as his ride and hopefully has bought a manual to go with it. He should be able to get the specs for you, or at least close if the years are different.

You have been really busy george. Great write up the only problem is its not on the WIKI. J/K
You have a fantastic web site.

Great write up George. Your attention to detail and the fact that you documented as much as possible helps tremendously with this. Once it is dialed in it'll be the dog's bollacks on the twisties. For all the those wondering about the shock here is a closer up picture of what George and also PimpMYFZR (Flo) are running in their 600s and what comes stock on Darrin's (Rage) 05 Gixxer (see below). This shock is a much better suited for this mod as opposed to the 2003 GSXR 600/750 or the Hayabusa shock mod mainly for it's reservoir position.

Sweekster,
. My Gixxer has the reservoir pointing down, which is why I could not use it with the 3EN braced arm as it hit (only about 1/2" clearance standing.)
The Busa shock would have been better with that 3EN arm as the reservoir points more upward but I wanted to keep the battery box stock (the reservoir penetrates the box area by about 3/4 " or so )
HOPELESS plug:- The 3EN arm & 'Busa shock are for sale see the notice in the 4 sale section :-}
