YZF600 engine covers fit on the fizzer..(pics)

First of all..i have to say that there is no advantage to upgrading to yzf600 covers, aside from getting used parts that are newer. All covers (i haven't got the rear right engine cover yet) fit fine. These aren't stronger, lighter, or better in any way. I just did it because they were cheap, i wanted a newer stator, and my old clutch actuator kept snapping cables because it was hard to move. These particular parts are off of a crashed 04 yzf600. One cover was in really bad shape, so i sanded it down below the scratches and polished it up. But it oxidizes easily now, so i wouldn't recommend that, i'm going to paint over it with aluminum engine enamel the next time i change my oil (which will be soon). I really need to repaint my engine too. Anyway, PICS!

hell , i had a yzf600 stator cover in the garage and been told it didnt fit , sold it to a guy on yzf board for 20 bucks ..
even though they are stronger or better just knowing they fit will make sourcing those parts alot easier for rest of us .

Interesting. Have you tried starting the bike yet? I'd bet the peanut cover won't matter, but I too have heard the stator cover can not be swapped. Something about the offset of the stator in relation to the flywheel. If it starts up, let us know and good luck with it.

actually i haven't started it yet. I did notice that the pickups are in the same location but the look slightly different and I'm a bit concerned about that. But they are both mounted in the same place. If it doesn't work then i'll pull my pickup out of the old stator cover and put it in this one. I've been using that Kreem stuff to get the rust out of the R6 tank that I'm using in my conversion. The Kreem should be dry now. It's taken forever because of the weather here. As far as the peanut cover..no it doesn't matter, i've been riding around with it on for months. It has a slightly different shape on the outside design, but it is deeper, so it works fine.

I tried doing the YZF stator cover too. Didnt work out all that well because the stator and the coil pickup didnt fit.

are you sure they didn't fit? There is no reason why the stator shouldn't fit. I put the stator and cover on my bike already, everything fits. They are the exact same size, i can understand the pickup not working, like i said i haven't tried mine yet, the pickup looks a little different but its in the same place. So we'll see..

What year yzf600 stuff are you guys using? There's a difference in the stator and flywheel between the 95-96 yzf600 and the 97+ yzf600. I think I read somewhere that the early ones might be interchangeable with the fzr600 but the later ones aren't.

I know that if you look at the model numbers on NRC's website, they are different. Yet they do offer some cross referenced parts such as the ones between the FZR 400 & 600. I would think that they would have looked at these to see if a new model was needed. Not saying it doesn't work, but there must be a reason for different model numbers.

well. im not sure if you know this, but the yzf600 IS a fzr600...
only us in america call it the yzf...dont know why, but if you travel to where they are manufactured, they are called FZR600R
youll notice that there is no 1994 yzf600..but there is a 1994 fzr600r which looks like this


and then in 95 is when they started calling them yzf's and fzr's at the same time...

the 96 and up yzf600s are not known as fzrs though...thats when they branched off to there new bread which I think is hidious and im glad they dont call these things FZRs...



its kinda how you have a fzr400R and the fzr400RR 3tj. except the fzr4003TJ stayed bad a**.

they basicly changed everything that they changed from the fzr600 to fzr600r (even adding the "r" to the end...)
(new frame/plastics/ they went from a 140/60R18 rear wheel, to a 160/60ZR17) from the looks of that stator cover, it looks like it could fit the 600 motor



but this is why we do a yzf600 conversion everything...
yzf600 tank/swinger/engine/controls/...ect..


you can use some engine parts from bimotas as well, as certain models have the fzr600r motor in them such as the Bimota YB

yeah i knew that they were the same, but i didn't know about the names. Nearly every part on the two bikes is close to identical. Kindof like the similarities between parents and children is how i like to see it. The only major differences I've noticed while working on both of the bikes is the carbs and the footpeg assemblies, everything else that I can think of right now is only different in their respective subtle ways. Yamaha just took an FZR, rounded off all of the external parts to make it more sleek, and named it something else. This avoided design costs for another sport bike besides the R6.

My next thing (after the R6 conversion is complete) will probably be the entire YZF600 electrical harness, just because my copper in the wires looks more brown than some of the stuff I've been wiring into it, plus it's 18 yrs old, and if I switched to the yzf harness i wouldn't have to have all of my butt connectors and soldered connections for switches like i do now.., also I could finally use the TPS on the yzf carbs.

I'd be really surprised if you get it to work. They pickup doesn't line up properly and won't fire correctly.
