SORRY TO BE SUCH A NEWB.....BUT WHICH TANK AM I LOOKING FOR TO DO THE SWAP.....YZFR1 OR R6 WHAT YEARS...IM SORRY I GET A LITTLE CONFUSED....I SAW HEATHS SITE AND ALL HE SAID WAS YZF ....

are you wanting to do a yzf swap?
Although, The YZF600 tank swap is the most straight foward and least complicated to achieve and it also matches up with the frame very well. I dont know if your any good with customizing/fabbing, but there are more options out there but they do require serious modding.
For example, Match417 addapted a 2000 YZF R6 tank to his fzr600.
We dont really know EXACTLY what ones we can and cant use...but I think there is a wide veriaty and people just need to try it.
You'll here from many people telling you "Its impossible..." "tried it and it wont work"...welll...anything is possible...they just gave up to early.

but if your looking for the easiest and most uncomplicated one, then go for the YZF600 tank

2000 YZF 600 tank is what I used.

there are a few downsides to using a 99 - 02 r6 tank, one can be circumvented. The first problem is the handlebars hit the front of the tank, i pushed my handlebars more forward, but it is really close to touching both the tank and the front fairing on tight turns. The second problem is just cosmetic, there is a gap on the back bottom of the tank between the tank and the frame. One day I'll get around to making my plastic covers for it that will make it look more sleek. Another issue is that there isn't a reserve switch for fuel BUT there is a fuel level sensor, you'll just have to make a little light thing for it to say your fuel is low. If you want to do a tank conversion to your bike and you dont' want to use the yzf600r tank, then try it with a tank that isn't off a fuel injected bike, the pump setup is different and it won't work without making a plate to weld or bolt on to the tank to cover the gaping hole where the injected fuel pump used to be, then connect a regular petcock. I don't know how hard it would be to use the 98 - 01 r1 tank on the bike, it's off of a carb'd bike, so if it fits it would work. It's hard to find people parting those out though.

I am very open to any tank ideas....If any one has one for sale than awesome.. If the tank had an electronic level sensor, ,,,not a prob...In my spare time i do small electronics repair..so creating a low level indicator would be no problem. I am also fairly good at fabrication...

I'm sure the gap in between the gas tank and the frame on the yzf tank is there for a reason, so more air can get into the box, there is a gap in the fzr design too for the same reason I believe.

the gap is there because i'm using a R6 tank on an FZR frame. The frame is wider around the knees on the FZR's than it is on the R6..i have something in mind to make cover the gap and make it look great, but I just haven't got around to it yet. I'll post it when I do.

In my opinion the yzf 600 tank is the best fit and no mods on the sides just the front and rear.

will this tank work, it supposed to be off of a 1994 yzf 600. Will later model gas caps fit

Mine is off a 2000. You can do a search on the micro-fiche to find out the right years. It looks like the same as mine.

thats not the same as yours...look at the bottom part toward the right, it has that thing where the tank goes up a little, then back down...I think its for air to flow threw

yea, its a 1994 YZF600 (FZR600R Europian)




it should work with the swap.

Yeah that tank will work and yes the gas caps from the newer models will fit as well. You could also get a key less gas cap like a Vortex or ProTek.
