should I be able to switch my bike into first gear without engaging the clutch when its just sitting????

I cant seem to get my clutch adjusted right

The amount of free play on the lever is about 2-3mm. Get that set and if that does not work then you have to adjust the worm gear on the front sprocket cover. That should be adjusted by turning the screw in until it sets, then turning it out 1/4 turn.

new problem.
now it wont turn into first gear.
I can go into nutrual,2nd and 3rd without ingaging the clutch.

nvm, now i got it back to being able to switch into just 1st and nutrual.
if I could then I would take it out and ride it but its too late at night and I dont want any cops yelling at me because of the noise.
did I mention there is alot of them living in my neighborhood?

ok, now I can switch it into every gear.....

ok, I havent done any adjusting at all, and it keeps switching from being able to switch into only nutrual, to 1st and nutrual, to nutrual and 2nd and 3rd.....

Try adjusting the lever and the gear. That should take care of your problem.

iv been adjusting the gear and lever....
the only reason Im freaking is because Iv gotta drive to class tomorrow at 7:50a.m.
I want to have a functional bike by then!

ok, I say screw the time and just go out and run the bike....

pull the handle all the way in, back the screw out 2 turns if it's not a new clutch
not adjust it on the case for good grip(make sure it doesn't slip when you adjust it, you should also judge the shifting by how easy it is from 1st to neutral.

when the bike is sitting still, I can switch it into 1st and nutrual without pulling the clutch lever in.

If it didn't need fixing don't mess with it.
Just find the thread where I helped you adjust it before.
It's just going to be trial and error, until you get it right.

Okay man, keep doing that dealio in the vid and you won't have any clutch material left.

Back the adjuster at the clutch lever perch all the way off (as sloppy as possible-turn the adjuster all the way in).

then at the bottom of the cable(front sprocket cover) pull the rubber plug (about the size of a quarter).

There is a phillips headed adjuster in there. It has a jam nut around it (I believe it is a 12mm, maybe 14?). Break the jam nut loose. Turn the screw out a couple turns. Then (making sure the jam nut doesn't 'jam' ) turn it (the phillips screw) in (clockwise) until you feel it seat lightly. Back it out (counter clockwise) 1/4 turn. Lock the jam nut.

Now take slack out of cable at perch. Leave 2mm free play between the perch and the lever.

Try it again.

Do these adjustmenst with the engine off.

new sprocket and chain also...

I removed the sprocket drive cover that the clutch cable connects to so I could see if I could mount my speed sensor so it reads off the front sprocket, and while I was at it, I cleaned out the inside of that case because it was filled with gunk. when I put everything back together, thats when I had my clutch issue...
Im hoping I fixed it, Ill find out tomorrow.
