Aftermarket spring and is that a PVC pipe?

Pulled the springs from my forks tonight. Found a interesting thing. I don't know if this is right or not but I found a PVC pipe in the fork tubes. Im thinking its to stiffen up the spring, which leads me to believe the spring is stock. Also, just to clarify, is this a stock spring or not?

The PVC is a custom preload spacer. Stock spacer is steel and a bit longer than that.
someone made that spacer when they installed the springs
The spring is progressive wound which leads me to believe that it is a Progressive Suspension spring set you have ( I could be wrong, the stockers ?might? be progressive wound as well-but I don't think so).
They are better than stock, but not as good as quality straight wound springs.

I think you are right. I went to Progressives site and they do look similar. Now, how are they compared to Racetech springs?

Racetech sells straight wound springs.
I don't think you could go wrong with racetech. Get emulators while you are at it (often can get a package deal). Follow their instructions as far as setting sag (spacer length) and emulator setup and you WILL be amazed.

Ill go ahead with the Racetech springs that way I can get the correct spring rate also.
The previous owner said she already had the emulators in (she raced the bike so I can believe that) so thats taken care of.

Well,
did they fall out when you took the forks apart? They are held down on top of the damping rod by the spring-nothing else. If they aren't in there, she lied to you.

No, I didnt take the forks all the way off. I just uncapped it.

Shine a light down there or tip 'em over and see, or use a magnet pickup tool and fish them out. You should baseline them to racetech's suggestions anyway, when you load their springs.

when you uncapped it did it feel like it wanted to shoot out ?
are you changing your springs with the forks still on the bike ?
if possible can u take some pics of how your bike sits .. id like to do somthing like this over winter if i dont have to take forks completely off ..

Yeah they look like my Progressive spring. I just put them in the other week.

I have not had a chance to ride on them yet. But when i went to install them, it appeared that my forks also had progressives previously installed. The previous owner however chopped one of the stock spacers to 3.75" as required per Progressive spec but left the other one at stock length
. The oil was nasty too. But I didn't like the suspension before but i can't exactly compare to stock.

That spring looks to be stock. Mine looked exactly the same way... I replaced mine with RaceTech springs.

either your springs are shot or the lady did not know what she was doing as those emulators DO NOT work correctly with progressive wound springs.
Whilst RaceTech are nice the price I found a bit excessive and found a local (3 miles or so away) spring maker at about half the price and offering the same range of forces.
By all means use RT site to work out the spring rate and oil viscosity and set the emulators up accordingly (0-7 turns on mine set at 3.5 for now)

You will see from that article that the damper rods also need modifying, best to see if yours have been done !!!! or you are wasteing time putting in the emulators as stock they do not see enough oil for them to work
