What do you guys think of high mount exhausts on the fzr? I was thinkin of welding some elbows to my v&h ss exhaust. Just wondering if there are any gripes that people have with them. No passenger seat so I dont care about that.
This one looks awesome though. Looks like they added a larger heel guard to protect against the pipe.

Myself i love the look of a high mount exhaust. They look so much better and give it more of a clean look and newer model look.

+1, looks awesome. the gf won't ride backpack on my bike anyways, she doesn't like the seat.

I have to agree that example looks awesome. I like high mounts when the they follow the lines of the rear tail like the one in that example does....Here's another example It's not a fizzer but makes my point.

Hi,
I does look good but be aware that altering the tuned length of the pipe will alter gas flow & thus the carb jettings

You may just want to use standard steel elbows etc to start with to get the shape etc just right for "the look" then do it in stainless steel rather than having it chromed ( chroming shops bitch on about re-chroming pipes as they say is messes up their cleaning vats )

Absolutely love the look. I would fit a can that is a little smaller in diamter than the one of the red FZR. Other than that that is freakin' awesome. Modkings' shotgun setup looks exceptionally good as well if you run across a pic of it.

Good point on the carb jets comment. I have a different set of carbs i'm throwing on with my new motor i just swapped in and I need to get those carbs jetted for the pod filters anyway. I'm modifying the super sport exhaust so there wont be any chrome. Just gonna weld in the elbows and respray it black.
Im gonna play around with the positioning of the can to see where i want it.

I ordered the piping today. I gotta get my ignition problem ironed out first before i go ahead and start cutting and welding. Will post progress when it becomes available.

I would like to make a suggestion, If you are going to do Pods and pipe together DON'T. First get the bike running PROPERLY with the Pods OR the pipe mod then do the other one .

Yup I know it sounds like doing the job twice but in fact you will save yourself a lot of time & FRUSTRATION.with each modification you then set a bench line that works. then if you get hacked off or run out of time before a big ride / race you can always step back and to having a working bike.


Experience has taught me what every GP / SB/ AMA racer mechanic knows take lots of notes about your set up & make ONE change at a time that way if it F's up you know the last thing you did is the cause but if you did multiple things you diagnoses is likely to be the wrong one Murphy's law

one of these good days I will have to get a 400 frame and polish it then spend the rest of my days moving 600 bits onto it

Well I wasn't going to post this till I had it all the way done because it's pretty ugly right now but here is my current hi-mount setup. I'm using the flexible pipe as a template so when I find a shop around here that can mandrel bend, they'll have something to go on. The only problem I've found so far is my heel hits the pipe at the first bend so I'll have to move it back a little more before going up. After that it'll be all good. I'm pretty proud of the adapter I made from the 2" pipe to the 3.25" cobra slip-on. I'm not proud of the welding job, but again it's a template. I hand formed and cut it from sheet. It's only 22ga but it worked as a template. I finished the forming of the 16ga last night but haven't welded it up. It will look a lot better. Even on the lowest setting on my welder I was blowing through the 22ga. There just isn't much to work with. Anyhow, on with the pic.
