Hey eerbody.

I bought an EBC clutch kit and had it burn up on me (low oil level and a little abuse did it in), so I put my stock back in and have been riding around on that, but it's starting to slip and need replaced. I found an ebay deal on barnett friction discs, but want to make sure it's what I need before I get suckered.

How many frictions discs should be included? The description for the auction was a little vague, and the photo wasn't the best, so I need a little help here. I counted 9 Discs from my EBC kit (still have the burnt kit, don't know why I haven't thrown it out yet but yea).

The auction includes 8 discs, is this the proper amount?

According to Barnett there should be 9 friction plates and 8 metal plates.

Thanks for the link, got a follow up question.

I got a good price on the friction plates, and have the ebc springs (which are stiffer than stock). If I were to substitute one of my stock friction discs in with the 8 barnett discs, would this be a bad idea?

I don't want to ruin 8 frictions because I'm a penny pincher, but I want to install a barnett clutch in my bike.

Do you know if you can purchase just one friction disc from barnett, I checked out their site, saw nothing to that effect, I'll call them tomorrow and ask.

From what it looks like you can get the friction plates as a kit, the metal plates as a kit, or both plate kits along with springs as a "complete" kit. Since you are gonna call you'd know for sure. I also would not mix the old and new like that because you could end up having to do a one time job more than one time..get me?

The FZR600 has 9 friction and 8 steels. I would worry about swapping on friction for stock.


On a off note, I would worry about the stiffer springs. It would be in your best interest to pull the sprocket cover off and check the clutch shaft to make sure it has plenty of lube on it. I recommend lithium grease. The problem with the stiffer springs is it puts more stress on that silly shaft and it ends up bending a tiny bit and catching in the transmission. Next thing you know it spins fast enough to heat it up enough to weld itself to the little ball bearing in the sprocket cover. Or it just snaps the clutch rod and leaves you with a clutch that will not work. Usually in the middle of nowhere.
